I put the '41 (3-speed) transmission back into my '41 Coupe. However, the two bolts don't "cinch" down tight. I tried washers, too.
I can't find my drawing of how to replace the bracket, and instructions didn't come with it.
The '41 shop manual doesn't show a drawing, either. I have the old metal piece, and I have a new metal piece and two rubber spacers.
I can drive in 2nd and 3rd OK, but 1st grinds.
Help. Is there a drawing of this procedure? I don't want to ruin my gears, and I want to do this right. Thanks, Dan.

Does reverse also grind while you are trying to engage it? A couple of things that can cause this are the clutch not fully disengaging or the pilot bushing dragging. Sometimes you just need to put the transmission in second gear to stop the transmission gears from turning and then shift to first or reverse without releasing the clutch between gears.
