What should the clearance be between the oil dipper and trough on a 194 CI? Where can I find a tool to measure this clearance?

The way I have done this (on a 216) is to fill the troughs with cup grease level to the top then ease the pan back on and turn the engine over a couple of times, in the running direction, by hand then pull the pan and see how deep the groove is that was cut by the dippers, it will give you a good picture of what is going on. The amount of the groove should be in the shop manual. It isn't very deep in a 216
