This may seem like a dumb question, I got replacement knobs for my choke and throttle cables for my 36 GMC. How much force is required to remove the old knobs? I have tried with pliers but I don't want to destroy the cable.

The best way to remove the old knobs is by splitting them with a chisel.

Some do and others don't. The very early stuff does screw off. It is not a problem however, just pull the inner wire back past the point you want to cut the casing and then do so.
