A number of years ago I purchased a rechomed bumper for my 71 Monte. Many years later, when I finally got to put it on it did not fit. I came to the conclution that the person must have sold me a 70 Chevelle bumper which looked very similar, does this seem to make sense?
My question is, was the chevelle bumper the same for both the El Camino and the pasenger car? I want to sell this but don't want to mis-lead anyone.

Is the a front or rear bumper? The Monte Carlo bumper )front) has parking lamp holes. The Chevelle dose not.The rear for the Monte has the U cut outs for the tail lamps.??????????

This is a front bumper. Bothe the 70 CVhevelle and the 71 Monte use rectangular parking lamps on the front bumper but as I found out, the Chevelle uses smaller lights than the Monte. I jsut did not know if the bumper was different for the Camino. I belive the fenders are different than a passenger car but was unsure of bumper.

I wrote this fast without proof reading. Corrections to "Both", "Chevelle", "Just" and "Believe"

The 1970 M.C had a round parking light opening in the bumper. The 1971 M.C. had a large retangular opening.Atleast 6" wide if not more. The 1972 had no opening.

The 1970 chevelle had a small retangular opening...about 4" wide.The 1971-72 had no openings.

The 1970 Chevelle bumper fit all cars, wagons and El Camino.

The 1970 Chevelle cars had the buldge thru the side of the fender and door. The Wagon and El Camino were flat in this area.Had no effect on the bumper.

Correction is in order....

1970 El Camino bumper has round parking lights - as the Monte Carlo.

Although the Chevelle and El Camino bumpers will "fit" the styling is different.

The 71-72 Monte Carlo bumpers will fit a '70 Chevelle as long as the outer bumper bracket is also used for the specific bumper. Otherwise, there will be interference with the parking light.

I hope you Chevy guys, (& gals), will allow a Buick question, and chatter! (Or, a referral) (A Buick forum has not yet yielded a good hit.)

I have long owned a '70 Buick Skylark, 350, now with 126K miles. ....which leads me to ask for a questimate of milage life. (Many miles ago I changed out the timing chain.) Runs great.

My now problem is front brake drums. I understand many GMs shared the same. (At least BOP, Buick, Olds, & Pontiac.) I "find" many drums online, and by ph. at far different prices stating a match. (Even my pocketbook seems to agree with new, all considered.) I do not know if mine is composite, or not. (??) Can I buy either, and can my hubs, and bearing, and mounting bolts be transferred to any new drum said to fit?

My # on mine turned out to be production #. Many calls finally produced a orginal #: 1277138. A couple of places asked if 4", or 3 1/2" wide, mine is the latter. Thanks!

All of the 1970 GM intermeadites shared the same brakes. There were a very inadquate 9 1/2" brake.Buick used , in 1970 composite (composed of two pieces) drums to help the rather poor brakes. The "working" surface is aluminum for better cooling...the remainder steel. The aluminum drums will interchange with the conventional but must be used in pairs.....The aluminum are a good up-grade for the chevelle, etc....they also fit the late Corvairs and are sought after.
If the car were mine I would consider changing to discs which were an option in 1970.

Yeah, I was gonna say my 1970 Chevelle Malibu has disc fronts and drum rears, I just had new rotors and pads installed last week for the fronts and although they only had 3000 miles on them the rotors each had a nice deep rivit groove in them.
