In what year did the Corvette logo change from one word "Stingray" to two words "Sting Ray"?

James,

I recall that Corvettes were called "Sting Rays" in the sixties. I think 63 was the first year. Then in 1968 or 1969 Chevrolet called them "Stingrays".

No, the Corvettes started out as Stingray and turned to "Sting Ray" sometime after '68. I'm looking for the specific year.

James,

What year did Corvette start out as the Stingray?? [twix]

The 1959 proto-type was called the Stingray, but I thought the first models were called Sting Rays.

According to "The Real Corvette" by Ray Miller, 1975 first printing, Shows the name Sting Ray first appeared on the 1963 production Corvette. Chevy used the split version of Sting Ray up to the 1967 Vette. In 1968 no version was used. The word Stingray came back in 1969, only it was used as one word.
Hope this info is correct. I believe the word Sting Ray was also used on an earlier show cars.
I'm not sure about that....? ;\)

I just took a look at the owners manual from my '65 roadster (selling it was the worst mistake of my life!) and Sting Ray is expressed as two words.

Hey Tom;
The first thing I did was to check my 69 owners manual. Funny. I sold the car for a down payment on my first house. How wierd, I also managed to save the owner's manual. Still wish I had my 69, maybe some day.

RGwiz--
I sold my '65 roadster (and a '29 Ford) to help finance the repair on my second house. My neighbor across the lane bought it...drove it one summer...and has had it sitting in his yard with a tarp over it ever since. That was about 15 years ago. I've approached him several times asking him to just name a price. He won't sell it back to me. Arrgh! Maybe someday he'll change his mind. It's such a shame to watch an excellent original, numbers-matching Sting Ray slowly deteriorate like that.

Hey Tom;
At the risk of sounding like a fellon. How about carving a styrofoam replica of the 65 and exchanging it with the real one. Yikes!
Hey, I have a similar situation in my town. There is a 67 roadster up the road that is in an open garage. The owner is using it for a workbench! I've approached the guy a few times and told him that I'll trade him my brand new Sears workbench for it. I even told him I'll throw in the vise! I'm still waiting for his reply.
The 65, in my opinion, is the first combination of four wheel disc brakes, 4speed, and fuel injection availible on any Chevrolet. What a cool automobile!
