Years ago i researched this same thought & even tried to find the dealer invoice. I ran into many dead ends. I was told that General Motors was in the car sales business & not into the history business. I have noticed more & more books have been coming out on Chevrolet history. Maybe somewhere in the future Chevrolet will open that vault & people like you & i will once again be able to get paper work on our vehicles. I do know if you have a Canadian built car that the paper work is available. joe

Interesting idea, I guess we call it a 'thread' in here. Anyway, I wonder if that info is even in 'the vault?' And if that type of info is in the vault, I wonder how far back it goes? I guess with the current state of GM, stock, etc. they have lots more to 'worry about' than collectors' interest in such matters. It is neat to have 'documentation' on our cars. But I doubt the vault is swinging open soon, even if this type of info is still in there. Bill.

Yes, documentation is a good thing. I met a guy who worked for the Van Nuys assm plant in California that has a 68 z/28 that was 13 car ahead of mine on the same assm line. He got all the papers for his car. Regretably, i didn't meet him till after the plant was gone. Who out there has some pull with General Motors?????

when i was president of NCRS from '90 thru '93, the club tried to find the build sheets etc for the 53 thru 82 vettes to no avail. a fellow member of NCRS, a lawyer who worked for GM at the time, got permission from the GM brass to take 2 weeks, at company expense, to search for the paperwork on the c-1, 2 and 3 vettes. he found nothing in spite of encouragement from ncrs and GM. he's convinced, to this day, that the paperwork was destroyed of lost in god-knows-where-ville. any vette built in bowling green has paperwork that exists and is obtainable like the 29-up caddys and early 60's up pontiacs. there have been no GM-sponsored searches for the documentation for the early vettes since about 1993.lets hope its found some day. mike

Dana,

Look for your buildsheets under your seat or behind the back of the seat or inside the door panel or in the headliner. If you do find one, be very careful, the paper is probably very brittle. Get a copy of it ASAP. Many also laminate the original one before it crumbles.

I found mine glued to the passenger side interior door panel. It was assembled in Leeds in 1970.

No, both build sheets were found on my pickup trucks. One on the '68 and the other on the '72. Both build sheets were visible when the seats were slid foward since they were located in the upper right-hand corner of the verticle seat cushions. \:D \:D \:D
