I think It would be great to have a place where guys could show pictures of their vehicles being restored. Alot of help can be gained by everyone with pictures. Remember a picture Is worth a thousand words. Anyway, Im all for It. Even the junkyard dog could show us his restoration projects. That would be very Interesting.

Guys, I think a gallery of VCCA members cars and trucks would be good, maybe over on the VCCA. org site.

It would read.....Restoration pictures of Members' vehicles ( Sorry, We are doing a restoration of the page.... see you in a couple of years!)
TIC , naturally!

31 Truck, With a story to go along with the pictures, I am sure that the G&D would be gald to have them and also the story. Give the editors a call or just drop them a note on the national site or a private email.

One thing that I have heard, Is that the G&D Is looking for more car pictures and stories. I would like to see alot more pictures of guys cars, Like what used to be In the magazine years ago. Also there used to be short mechanical tips from people all over the country and It was a good added feature to look forward to reading, Every month when the magazine showed up. I would like to see more of what I described, Instead of five, six and seven pages of registration forms, for different car meets. These wasted pages cost alot of money to print in the magazine and pertain to a very few people. With nine or ten thousand people world wide, I think we need to have much more car related material In the magazine for everyone. Thanks, This Is my opinion. I would like to hear other peoples comments. \:\) \:\) \:\) \:\)

I don't know if all the pictures you guys take would make it here on the web site.

But I'd like to show you all my "Work in progress".

We got a new digital camera and I'd like to know how to insert a jpg. or a scan photo.

I am with you Don and Bruce, but I think we need an events calendar page with a couple of lines per event with a email address and a telephone number, the Clubs could send a registration form by email and snail mail to those desireing to inquire or register or buy spaces. (Or buy a 1/4 page or more.)

I don't think any registration forms should be included in the G&D except for the National Anniversery meet. Some of the Region registration forms are un-believeable complex and long.

That is often the only way some members know of the events outside of their area.

Also remember, to post a photo here The photo must be one that is already posted on a Web Site . You can't post one directly from your "C" or "A" drive. I would caution site members that photos are not actually posted here as such, the link brings the photo into the posting as if it were actually here, and that if everyone could post photos here it would not be much of a discussion forum, in fact several forums have went WAY OVERBOARD posting photos, I think I am guilty myself as well as those that try to teach school on their forums. It may be a ego thing to show how well one knows cyberspace processes!...(IMHO) and that goes for all of the titles in the posting signature.

I would hope that those that do post photos will only leave them for a couple of weeks, those that want a permanent pic can save it to their computer's hard drive.

AGAIN (IMHO)

Well, well,
For all you guys that want more photos of vehicles, send in one of yours. Make sure that it is properly lit and that the background does not clash too much or tend to hide the car.

For articles on restoration of Vintage Chevrolets write one!!!! As one who has written several articles that apparently are not of much interest to members (only rarely do I get any response from members) (and many on this forum have asked questions or related incorrect information that was covered in some of the recent articles). It also takes many hours of research, writing, sending to others for critiques, corrections, etc. How about you? What have you done recently to promote the restoration of Vintage Chevrolets? Argue with those that have done the research and published the information? Congratulations you have just made the next article more difficult to write. Or write to the author and tell him how much you appreciated his efforts or added an observation or sent the results or your own research or suggested an article that might be of interest to VCCA members? Then you are contributing to more articles and a better understanding. Where do you stand? What kind of VCCA member are you?

Now here is something I can step up to!

I know of some very low cost web hosting services, and can program PHP/MySQL based websites... with help defining what we'd like to see, I'd be willing to buy a domain name and pay for the server for a year or two and put up a site where we can all put our photos up! I could set the website up to so you'd have to log in to submit your photos, then I'd end up having to edit everything to keep the size reasonable. We'd also have to put a size limit on everyone's "page". Hey, this could be an interesting project!

Like Billy Barker, I'd want to have (nearly complete) creative freedom, but we can make this work. Since graphics files are so large, the site might quickly grow to a size that I wouldn't want to pay for anymore, but it's worth a try.

Any comments? Any suggestions for a domain name? (vccacars.org and vccaphotos.org are both avaialble, but there might be more interesting one's out there).

OK guys....... it sounds like the G and D should be recieving several restoration pictures that are good sound printable pictures in the upcoming weeks. I look forward to seeing trucks from Utah, Illinois, Minnesota. Also, I hope to be able to read some story lines about each project. It doesn't have to be a three pages spread, but enough to "bait" us all. into believing that we all can appreciate and benefit from each others knowledge and information, and most importantly we are willing to share what we know.

A year ago or more the G and D printed some photos of my son Shane's 51 4dr sedan and the letter that I sent with it. They are always looking for articles to print of members cars and the story behind getting the cars going again.

Also, Years ago In the G&D, there was one page In each monthly magazine, That had several small pictures of members cars and also there was a page of short tips on doing engine work and body work that was great to read every month. Also these pictures and articles were In the smaller G&D books. I think these things would be a great thing to be back In the magazine. If they could cut down or eliminate the full page meet regristeration forms, Which pertain to a very small percentage of people, We could have alot more car activity for everyone who belongs. I would like to see the board members address this at their next meeting coming up. Thanks. \:\) \:\) \:\) \:\)

Don,
What exactly do you want the Board to do? There are already yearly discussion on the lack of technical articles but, if they are not submitted then they can not be published. Economics dictate an all volunteer article submission policy. The club does not have the funds to pay for articles.

Chip, What Im referring to and bringing up for discussion, IS that I feel there Is no need to have a regional club have one or two or how many pages In the G&D for registeration to their meet, which pertains to very few people who belong to the VCCA. In some months I have counted seven pages of registeration forms. That Is alot of pages that could be full of chevrolet material for every member to read and enjoy. If they were limited to one half page for their upcoming meet, That would be great, And some already do that. If somehow more members can get Involved and send pictures and other articles to the G&D, Then I think that would make the magazine better for everyone. Also alot of good articles that was printed In the late sixties and seventies could be reprinted In todays magazine, as a majority of members were not Involved In the VCCA back then.I bring this up to give my thoughts of what I think could be done, and for others to maybe give their views. These comments are just my views and Im glad that I can bring them up on this site. Thanks

I agree, I'd like to see content republished from older issues. The technology and techniques haven't changed and for newer members the resources would be very useful. \:\)

There may be copyright issues to be reviewed and permission issues from old writers.

Yes, all articles written and other material that is submitted to the G&D is done on a voluntary basis. I believe the only person that gets paid for the G&D is the editor. Also, the majority of the club's dues goes towards the publishing of the G&D.

There are many, many great articles that were written back in the 1960's and 1970's that could be reprinted again in the G&D for the newer members. Also, as I remember an attempt was made years ago to reprint a few of the past articles such as the drive reports that were originally published in the G&D back in the late 1960's. \:D \:D \:D \:D

Gentlemen,
If articles were to be republished would you be willing to review the articles and update them if needed? The may need updating as part numbers may have changed, some of the parts are no longer available or others are now available or ??? If so I am sure the G&D Editor would appreciate your help.

Yes there are several who are paid to publish and distribute the G&D. First the G&D Editor is paid to layout the magazine, prepare it for printing, etc. Then the printer is paid to print the pages and assemble it. The Membership Secretary is paid to process memberships and prepare a list of member changes. Currently Fink Printing is paid to put the membership changes on a computer list and prepare the mailing labels. A mailing service is paid to put the magazines in the plastic sleeve and bundle for mailing. Lastly the Postal Service is paid to distribute the magazines to members.

I sense from the post by lil johnny that he may not be comfortable with paying some associated with the G&D. Maybe the above will help is understanding.

Hi
It sounds like some of you are upset that someone gets a few dollars for all the time they put in being an editor. If you are, I think you should re-think your attitudes before you complain. I am quite sure that the editors are not over paid. In fact, dollars per hours, the pay equals to cents/hour, rather than dollar/hour.
I am also sure that if the editors thought you would be competent in putting out a good magazine....you would be able to pry some of the work out of their hands. Alot of times, a person has those jobs because everyone complains but no one want to do a competent job. Basically......get off their backs and help them.

I wish someone would explain to me how you are able to put all those extra little icons in your messages.

I would be willing to donate my time to help edit any of the old articles, to update them for a re-print in the G&D.

In addition, I think the VCCA and G&D Staff in particular, should be commended for putting out such a high quality magazine, month after month, with most of the content being submitted by the membership. I was the Editor for a while, for a monthly newsletter for a Region of the AACA, and found that most of the membership expected the Editor to write it. Well, the Editor's job is to EDIT, not to AUTHOR, the content. If we want to read an interesting & informative magazine each month, we can't just sit back and wait for the Junk Yard Dog or everybody else to entertain us. Everyone has to contribute. It doesn't have to be a 10-page treatise - a one pager on a trip your club took or a problem you had and resolved with your old Chevy would be welcomed, I'm sure.

Or so it seems to me - my 2½¢

And yes, I have submitted an article to the G&D in the past - Have you?
-Bob
