I was wondering about the following statement in this ebay ad ( click here ):

"This car also has the very rare factory RPO 242 (Special Crankcase Ventilation Feature). This was a PCV valve setup that replaced the downdraft tube found on other 62 Corvettes. This according to Noland Adams (noted Corvette expert), is possibly the rarest of all 1962 options. Some have even put this number as low as 26 cars. These cars were pulled off the end of the assembly line and marked for "California Use"."

How much of this statement is 'seller smoke' and how much is true?

Thanks...

So this Vette does have an original "rarest of all options" on it...Cool.

I had never heard of this item.

Thanks Mike, if anyone would know about Vettes facts it would be you.

the option can be added to the 62 vetttes. parts needed not to hard to find. although its a "rare" option, i wouldn't go to the trouble of retrofitting my 62 with it. if ya want to discuss rarity on 62 vettes, the 24 gallon gas tank is the mother of rarities. wish my 62 fuelie was so optioned. regards gator, mike

Related questions for you Mike...I want to know which Vettes ('62) had coves of a different color than the body? Was this based on the color of the car or what?

Didn't some years have a 36 gal. gas tank option (to run some of the long races)?

I have been told that '62 Vettes had no factory AC; that AC started in '63 for Vettes...is that correct?

all 62 vettes came with a solid body exterior color, ie no two tones in 62 as were available from 56 thru 61 vettes.. the 62's didn't have stainless cove mouldings like 56-61 so the two tone break in paint couldn't be hidden as it was 56-61 under the stainlees trim. you'll notice the 62's cove area is outlined by a ridge or protrusion in the door and side panels(ie , moulded into the fiberglass itself). the c-1's that came with the optional "large" gas tanks were 24 gallon tanks. they are extremely rare. the optional oversize 36 gallon tanks were unique to the c-2's(midyears). the 63 only ZO6's of which there were 175 or so produced, could be ordered with the regular tank size of 18 gallons(99 of the small tank ZO6s were procduced) or with the optional 36 gal tank, of which 74 were produced.from 1964 thru end of c-2 production in 67, one could order the optional 36 gal tanks. only one 36 gal tank roadster was built in the midyear run, all others were coupes. enough of my rambling. mike

no c-1's were c-60 equipped. the c-60 AC option was introduced in the middle of 63 production and are few in number. by 64, c-60 became popular and they aren't too scarce on vettes 64 to present. mike
