Well, it sure looks nice in the pix. And if you kept the hood down, who'd know the difference?? It's the $20k bid and 'reserve not met' that gets me! This seller must be looking to hit a 'home run.' Bill.

Yes, it is a shame. But, I do agree that it looks very nice. The price is just bait. $20k and the reserve not hit? C'mon!

I'm an Apache fan, so I am not completely familiar with the all of the Nomad details. However, I was always under the impression that Nomads were 2 door wagons. Is there a site that gives some detail on these?

The two door Nomads were produced from 55-57, the four door nomad was produced from 58-61 The two door wagons in 59 and 60 were the Brookwood wagons built on the Biscayne platform (far from the flashy Impala platform like the Nomad) I am not sure if the 58 two door wagon was the same. There was no 61 two door wagon. That same two door wagon platform was used for the El Camino.
I started this thread and to me it is a shame, rust free original cars of this era are few and far apart, and it deserved to be preserved

John, You have me crying tears as big as....Oh well you know what I mean, I drove one of those when I was training with an Engineer much senior to me. it was a great car for an engineer with tools, instruments and luggage. I made a couple of trips from the Panhandle of Texas to Williston N.D. overnight, he slept and I drove. years later when I got a comparable job we were downsized to a LTD 4 door.

Did anyone check to see how this ended?? Here's the deal. The auction ended a week ago Thursday, the 12th @ 730am. The last bid was Tuesday, the 10th @ noon. 42bill and Super400 noted a $20k bid and that turned out to be the last bid.

It was one of those 'private auctions' which I don't understand anyway. But, I think it's interesting that there weren't ANY bids the last 44 hours or so of this 10 day auction. Seems like even those who might have been interested in the car just sorta 'gave up.' And why not, at Twenty!! Geez Louise!!! \:\( \:\( \:\( Bill.

If it were still original I could see the $20K They are real rare! I think it had factory A/C which is a plus in any car

John: The site for the 60 wagon.....

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4546520548&category=6169

contains the following info about the A/C.....

THE ITEMS THAT GO WITH THE CAR..... ORIGINAL FRIGIKING ORDER FORM FOR INSTALLATION OF THE AC UNIT WHEN THE CAR WAS PURCHASED WITH THE WARRANTY CARD

and this is also in the 'description' .....

FRIGIKING AIR CONDITIONING(INSTALLED WHEN CAR WAS NEW, PAPERWORK INCLUDED) WITH AN UPDATED SANDEN AC COMPRESSOR--BLOWS REAL COLD

My Question: I guess that couldn't be called 'FACTORY' A/C if it was 'dealer installed' - or could it?? And is this what a dealer would have installed?? Or is it more likely this was installed at a "A/C-Radiator" type shop from that era??

Thnx. Bill.

No, that was aftermarket A/C so even though it is period correct it is still not "GM" approved. Dealer installed air was the "cool pack" unit, they are pretty rare to come by. I have a 62 with a cool pack system I installed. I found it for sale in the G&D a few years ago. The service parts were real hard to find when rebuilding it. The price for that 60 was a little high but considering the solid condition it really was not too far of base. A close friend of mine sold his 59 Nomad 15 years ago with a fresh restoration and he was given an offer for $15,000 so he let it go, not even looking to sell it.(he regrets it to this day!) It showed up on e-bay about a year ago and it went in the 20's. It now had an alternator, and vintage air set-up, and a later sound system, I wish I knew where the wonder-bar went that was in the car when he sold it. That radio brings stupid money. I have seen them go as high a $1000!

John: It would be a pretty short list if we made a list of 'stuff' that doesn't NOW cost a fortune compared to what it used to. Especially in parts. NOS or good used even sorta 'rare' parts are just un-real. Reproduction items are in the same category. I'll bet somebody like Kassis could rattle off horror stories by the dozen... 100's ??? \:\( Bill.
