Yes, it has mostly a 1951 instrument panel, Olds tail lights grafted on to a 1951 Chev and the olds grille on the front.

Well, Gene, not destroyed as much as some,

Anyway, one of the most bestest things about owning a 50 Olds Convertible, et al, is to put it in low, hold the brake and mash the gas some. Thet makes the car rise up on it springs and seems ready to leap forward. Chevrolets didn't do that at the time anyway.

I think this car could be brought back to a really nest 51/52 Cheverlot convertible without too much trouble. At least for some. Agrin

The ad states they began with a '51 Hardtop, but you point is well taken.

I didn't notice that it was a hardtop when born. The 1951 (1949-1954) convertibles had a lot of cowl shake WITH the X frame. Hate to see whst that one is like. I would deem it unsafe to drive.
The Olds was a much more exciting car at that time. I had a 1949 88 convertible.

I agree. Most folks converting to convertibles don't bother adding the needed chassis bracing and support cross members that factory convertibles came with. Would that account for the cowl shake?

Yes, they had cowl shake with the X frame, I can't begin to imagine how bad it would be the no X.
The Chevrolet frame and body were mounted solidly together so one would rienforce the other. They refered to it as unit construction.

Gene,

On second thought I was wrong and you are right on. I missed the fact that the car didn't start out as a convertible with an X frame. Accordingly, your term "destroyed" seems soundly appropriate. bananadead

As an end result, a 1951 Chevy H.T. and a 1950 Olds were sacrificed to make this Chevy / Olds convert. Sad.

I know of someone that did the same thing. In this case he used a 51 hdtp that rolled onto it's roof and a 49 convertible that was totaled in front and the running gear removed. He did reinforce the frame and I was able to get the hdtp rear glass. In this case it was not a waste.
