Can anyone send me a link or send a photo of what type of jack came originally with my 54 half ton. Recently I have seen some with what looks like a cast aluminum body and others with two halves of a steel shell riveted together. Unless this is the type of thing that depended on supplier or manufacturers. Thanks in advance!!

The master parts book says same part # for all 1/2 ton trucks from 1929-1955.


Commercial Jack {W/ folding handle}....
Part # 3690652 Gp.# 8.820 {3000 lb. capacity}

Although GM used the same part # from 1929-1955.... I suspect that there were changes in the actual jack that was supplied along with the tool kit over that 26 year span.

There is also a listing for 1942-1955 Utility or "big truck" jack with a 7000 lb. capacity...
{I would think that these were used on all 1 1/2 ton & up trucks}.

This is the original jack & handle that was under the seat on my 1953 1/2 ton truck....

I have pictures of the jack from the 1952 I had and it is exactly as your pictuure.

Jacks have always been a problem to ID because they would sell through parts whatever the lates jack was.
The 1/2 to ruck jacksay in 1952 went back to 1929 for service. All cars and small trucks had a screw jack except the 1934 Master had a double screw for more lift and the 1935 Master annd all 1936 cars had a bumper jack'

IN 1944 THE SMALL JACK WAS PART # 596023, IN 1948 609652,
iN 1950 CHANGED TO THE 3690652 NUMBER AND IN THE PARTS BOOK IT IS DESCRIBED AS A 3000 pound jack and in the specifications all the years list the 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks as having a 2500 pound jack and 1 tons having a 3000 pound jack So for replacement they sold just the larger 3000 pound jack for replacement.. This means the jack part numbers mean nothing.

It would be my guess that the jack you have was probably used from 1950-1954 at least.
The same handle is listed for all jacks and goes back into the 1930s.
