From reading the '57 shop manual there seems to be 3 types of batteries used in '57.

1. has a plain side with just DELCO,
2. has DELCO in a square with additional information
3. has two rows of fill plugs of 3 caps each the first 2 have a single row of 6 fill caps.

I like the third type of battery, does anyone know a source?

Thanks

Hey Gator. The only battery that I have ever seen Is the single row of six yellow caps just like the reproduction ones that antique auto battery sells. When I had my 57 judged last august In the Bow Tie 1000 point judging. The only battery that they accepted without taking any points off was the one that antique auto battery sell for 1957 chevys. Give Bow Tie a call In Florida your home state and they will clue you In as what Is correct.phone 407-886-1963 Ext 27 and ask for Denny Williams

I thought the same as you until I saw the other ones in the '57 Chevrolet Passenger Car Shop Manual.

The one with 2 rows of yellow caps are on pages 6y-14 and 6y-15.

The one without anything except DELCO on the side is on page 6y-7.

The one you have in your car is on page 6y-3.

They may be pictured in other places in the manual but pages 6y-14,15 are the pages that tell you how to prepare your battery for use.

Pictures in 1957 Shop Manual

Page 6Y3--probably as good as it can get-only the lettering was not painted on production batteries.

Page 6Y7--I have pictures of early 1955's and no name is shown.Have a picture of a later 1955, has Delco -not painted.1955 caps are black with a yellow ring.Same picture is in 1955 manual.

1956 I have good pictures and the Delco looks like the late 1955 and caps are solid yellow. It difficult to see the side of the battery in 1957 pictures due to the front mounting....would guess its cloase to the 1956, letters are not painted and caps are yellow.

Page 6Y15--Battery pictured is a 1953-54 Olds, buick, Cadillac 12 V battery.

I am sure all batteries pictured in manual were furnished by Delco and may be a bit general looking.

I am sure the battery Bow Tie sells would be accepted for their judging as they are not a club but a parts business.

Should also qualify for VCCA as is does say Delco

Thanks Gene, I noticed that the copyright on the '57 manual is '56.

Wish Chevy had thought about us restoring their cars many years later and had kept only Chevy stuff in the manual and not other GM or Delco stuff, LOL.

I think the only one available today will be the one with the yellow square and yellow caps.

I have noticed that there are some places that sell them cheaper than others; so I will use my cheapy battery until I have saved a lot of pennies. \:D

Thanks again guys.
