I'm looking for a 1969 Nova coupe my dad used to own. It was purchased in Jackson Heights, NY. The VIN is 114279W-334001. I just found the invoice and I have no clue where to start looking! Hopefully someone has an idea or can point me in the right direction.
Thank you so much!

Hi Marie,

The first place I'd start is with the DMV in New York.

If your Dad moved out of NY, do you remember where he lived when he sold it or do you have any pictures of the car that show the license plate number? If so, then try the DMV in that state.

Good luck! Dean

I wish I had pics of the license plate. I will definitely try the NY DMV. Thank you so much!

Contacting DMVs to get owner information is tricky as there is now a Federal Law protecting people from being located. This came about as a result of the Sharon Tate murder back in the 80s.

When you contact the DMV , you want to obtain a title history and let them know you are doing "research." Many states do allow for this.

That failing, if you can afford it, hire a private investigator. DMVs do allow investigators, law enforcement and insurance companies to obtain owner information.

Good luck.

If it were a Camaro you could contact Camaro Research Group. They have a place to list orphans, in your case the invoice. If they have a match to your VIN, they'll get you in contact with the owner of the car. I don't know if the National Nostalgic Nova Club does this.

I posted your information on the Yenko site. I'll let you know if anything shows up...Joe

I tried running a CarFax on the VIN number you posted and they reported back that it is an invalid VIN number.

Good Luck in locating the car
