My '51 is a DECEMBER of 1950 production unit.
The serial number only has a 4 digit number, 3528, at the end.
Taking off the 1001, leaves a sequence number of 2527 off the assembly line.
The cowl tag shows J 136.
How does that 136 fit into the vehicle sequence number .... or is the 136 a body assembly sequence number only?
If the 2527 is the final production sequence number of the vehicle and the 136 is the body sequence number, is that difference in the two numbers an acceptable, sensible difference ??
The NC DMV has been driving me to the edge, now stating my serial number tag is invalid, my rivets are not correct, etc. 7 months of this harassment, with no end in site.
Since there is no "hidden serial number" on the 1951, is it feasible that my 3528 serial number coincides with the 136 cowl tag body number ?
Trying to discover a legitimate way to tie my existing serial number (which I believe is accurate) to the car, through the 136 info on the cowl tag.
The VCCA Tech Advisor was given info from me, but the curiosity of the relationship of these numbers is burning a hole in this worn out brain, so I was forced to post now. willy

My 51 tag is 21JKE. the 21 stands for The Janesville, WI assembly plant. the J is 1951. the K is Styleline deluxe, and the E is for the month of May. I have know idea what J 136 could stand for.

The 136 body sequence number indicates it was the 136th body OF THAT STYLE to be produced. So if you have a Styleline Deluxe 2 door it was a very early 1951, probably made in the first few days of body production as that was the 2nd most popular body style in 1951.
That would tie in with the serial number production sequence as 2500 would also indicate the first few days of assembling 1951 models at Janesville.
I do not have 1951 Janesville production figures but in 1952, a low production year due to the war, Janesville produced 83,000 DELUXE models alone in 1952 .

The J 136 is on the cowl tag, but not on the serial number tag.

Gene, FYI, Bill D. called, spoke with him at length, over the weekend, a very knowledgeable, patient man, who will be a great assistance to me, with my ongoing contacts with the NC DMV. I am thankful for Bill's willingness to assist me.

Your answer ties my thoughts together on this production concern.
I am sitting here right now, Monday morning, expecting yet another call from the NC DMV, so this info will assist me.
So, this 1951 Sport Coupe was the 136th Sport Coupe produced by Janesville plant.

Gene, do you have the date when the Janesville Plant began production / assembly of the 1951 model ?

If your car is a Sport Coupe their production was considerably less than a 2 door, but still would e a very early car made before 1951 Introduction day.
1951 production began Dec. 9, 1950 and introduction was early in Jan.
For all plants there was over one million 1951 Deluxe models assembled.
Bill is a friend of mine....go figure. Can yo imagine what are conversations are about. talk

Gene,
Yes, mine is a Sport Coupe ..... or business coupe, as I call it.
Thanks for the production start up date.
Yes, I would be happy to be a fly on the wall, when you and Bill are together !

What was the reason, as to why the 1951 production and introduction dates were scheduled so late ?
Normally a September introduction date ?

Thanks, Gene.
After asking my question, I thought the Korean War was the reason for the delay in 1951 production.
Now seeing all the other late starts, my thought was not so valid.
