Anyone know what the correct BASCO key blank number is for a locking gas cap for a 1934? I recently purchased what looks to be a NOS locking cap but it is missing the key.

First are you sure it is a 1934 cap?
The 1934 accessory book says the cap lock cylinder can be fitted for the 1934 ignition key to open the lock. The 1934 key was a one year only double cut key.

Going to the 1935 parts book the locking gas cap (same number as 1934) can come with an uncoded cylinder and can be coded to 1935 type key.

The 1939 parts book shows 1936 and up locking gas caps used the same cylinder tumblers as the rest of the door locks..

1935-1966 cars used the same key blanks and key numbers.

Se if a 1935 or newer key will insert into the lock cylinder.

1934 Chevrolet used a diff basco key blank number on the double cut key, than a 1935 that also used a double cut key.

Like Packard ad says , " ask the man that owns one "

In the US the 1935 used a single cut key for the door and ignition.

Sounds like typical GM Canada manufacturing. It surprised me to find out that my 1938 actually had 1937 door/trunk handles from new. GM Canada used the 1937 Chevy handles on all model lines for 1937, 1938, 1939 domestic models (Chev, Buick,Pontiac,Olds). They combined years/models to give them the cost efficiency of the larger volume so we ended up with odd things (like a Chev that looks like a Pontiac).

Found out the gas cap is a 34, double sided key. BASCO #11. Anyone know who could make a key?

Unfortunately, most locksmiths today are not "real" locksmiths. Anymore, most locksmiths have no clue about locks and keys from the past.

My 35 chev coupe ( Canadian built )uses a basco #12 key double sided in the door lock, apparently same as 34 Chevrolet. Door handles have the key code stamped into the barrel inside the door. Theres a book from gm that tells the key guy how to cut it by code.

I bought NOS basco keys on ebay 6 months ago

I have a locking gas cap on the car but its single sides and nothing on it says its a gm gas cap, just bought it at a swap with key in it.

My car is locked up in storage so cannot look at cap and how its assembled. You might have to drill out some pop type rivets to get to the inside. Somebody put it together so it has to come apart.

My cap has a code on it next go the key slot. Some places are willing to check for the blank which is common and look up the code.

There is a car dealer here < Chevrolet > that I have had keys cut using the stamped in code, the dealer has the original book.

The code numbers were stamped into the door handle and also on the trunk lid handle.
