I am thinking about installing a 6 volt alternator in my 1933 Chevy Master. I pulled apart my generator and cleaned it up. It does work now. But I couldn't get all of the rest out of it, and the bearings are in bad shape. The insulation on the internal wires is all worn off. I'm afraid it isn't going to last very long. I know the judges won't like the alternator, but I want to be able to drive this and have it reliable. Has anyone here had any experience with the company that makes these alternator's? This link "6 Volt Alternators" that is underlined in blue shows the company and alternator information.

Look in Hemmings Motor News, Hemmingscm on net for vendors that "do" your gen. There is a place in Florida that advertises rebuilding services. Some of you guys jump in here and help.

You can get your 943J generator professionally restored and it will last you for many, many years.

I agree with staying original.

I bought two antique cars in the past that were both converted from generators to alternators and neither one changed.

I ended up returning both to original model generators when I restored them and never had a problem with the generators.

I have been driving my 32 with a generator for over 16 years and 12000 miles with no problems. Most that install an alternator do so for increased amp output necessary for added electrical items, mainly lighting. With the use of LED lighting the added amps are not usually necessary.

You might contact Romaine Electric in Portland OR to rebuild your generator. Their phone number is 800-547-0361
