Does anyone know where I can get a copy of wood patterns for a 29 Chev?

Is there any one place or person who offers wood patterns for all Chevies?

As far as I know, there are no wood patterns available, but Jim Rodman has the complete wood kit.

Does he offer a wide variety of kits, or is he just offering for 29s?

Jim Rodman has been making high quality wood kits for decades, and he covers lots of years for Chevrolet.

Ya, I was going to ask the same question! Maybe Billy Boy Barker dropped one of those beams for his new garage on his foot??

I think Bill's OUCH! was for the bill at the end of the woodkit transaction. I know what it's like. The kit for a 29 Coach ran about $2500.00 with shipping. Don't get me wrong, I didn't mind paying for it. The quality of the kit is worth twice the price and some have have paid that much for wood that did't fit and was of poor quality altogather. The thing is that you can buy one piece or an entire kit from Jim Rodman. I have never heard any bad words used about the Rodman kit and I think that you will find that those of us here who have used his wood are very happy with them .

Hey Chebbie luvers, $2500 ain't too bad for a whole kit, have any of you seen how many milling operations go into just the window regulator and door latch mounting board?
and when you compare it to what a carb bowl for an up-draft Carter or a window roller handle costs! that is a DOUBLE OUCH!

For the price that you pay for the wood kit, you couldn't do all of the wood yourself, especially after you purchased the special tooling required, figure your labor and the cost of the wood and etc.

I have a friend of mine (now retired from business) who, at one time, had the contract with Bank of America to build all of their cabinets for the new banks on the west coast. He had a state of the art wood shop (it was huge) and he had many employees working for him and such. You name the wood working tool, and he had it in the shop! When it came time for him to completely rewood his 1931 Chevy special sedan (which became a concours show car), he bought a complete wood kit from Jim Rodman. I asked him why since he had the facility to make all of his own wood on site. His answer? "I can't duplicate the wood kit as cheap in my shop as Jim Rodman sells it for!" And, when he received his wood kit, he was totally impressed with the quality and the fit of the wood. End of story!

I started out with buying a piece at a time from Jim Rodman because I thought at the time that some of the wood could be used, As I went along I decided to replace the complete wood on my 32. Jim sent me several different orders of the wood and always said when you get the bill with each order, send me a check, no problem.I called Jim several times and asked many questions and he took the time to help me and send literature to do my wood replacement. This was seven years ago and since then I think Jim has got alot more business and may not be able to spend the time as he used to talking on the phone . I could not imagine trying to duplicate the quality of workmanship he does on the wood kits. The money I spent on the wood kit to me was worth it.

For me it's not the end of the story but the beginning. About 20 minutes ago I wrote out a check for a down payment on a wood kit to Jim for my '31 coupe so he knows I'm serious and he can get it ready to send. He was more than helpful when ever I called for information. Like Chevy, I also thought I could save some wood but after tearing into it this weekend, I decided to order the whole kit for $2,500 including shipping. Now to keep checking the other sites for cleaning and painting the frame.

Hey Jerry! You did the right thing.....and you won't be sorry. Have fun installing the wood.....it's a challenge, but you will learn a lot in the process!

Yep, sounds like you have the bases covered. However, don't forget the main tool on a job like this......and that's the beer! It comes in very handy when you get into those "tough" areas! :p :p :p

James, you drive down to Texas and Chip and I will show you some mesquites , and you can cut your own wood, Ha!, but the woodpeckers would probably have it eaten before you get thru Arkansas, if the Arkansas troopers don't get you first ,Right D2D2?

Right you are, MrMack. In the 5 years since we got scammed by those people I have not missed even one opportunity to ridicule or insult the State of Arkansas in any way possible.

The woodpickers better have armor plated beaks if they want to penetrate the mesquite. It is some tough stuff. And remember to remove the thorns before trying to pick it up. Better yet just put a few steaks (or JunkYardDog burgers) on the pit and burn the stuff. Yum!
