Hey Skipper, I have a friend who teases me about the placement of my driver side mirror. He has a '36 Ford but I tolerate him nonetheless. I mounted my mirror closer to the bottom of the door sill. He claims that "authentic" antique cars have the mirrors mounted on the top like his. I concur that may be the common look, but I have seen low mounted mirrors on pre WWII cars as well. Was the placement on top a matter of manufacturer guideline to the dealer, or could placement be potentially discretion decision of the owner? Signed, Don't Look Back In Anger

What about '32 models and mirrors? If my question doesn't violate the string too much.

Gator, the old-style aftermarket mirror I bought for my '32 has two small mounting pegs on the inside. I cringed at the thought of tapping into perfectly good metal, but it's so discrete that it was livable.
I also like to see who's sitting on my rear end, particularly when I'm hand signaling to turn.

I used the sideview mirrors that attach to the upper door hinge on the '28, you pull the upper hinge pins and replace them with a nut and castlenut. I guess it would be classified as a Modification, well at least I didn't hang a foxtail from the antenna, No antenna!

Hi Guys; The side mirror on my 32 is mounted high on the door and two small countersunk flat screws hold it from inside the door frame. When you open the door you can see the heads of the screws, and the base. The screws have pointed ends so they pass thru the base and pinch the body. The visable outside base just rests on the door and I cut a rubber base for it. I think my Dad found it in some 40's boxes he dug up. He used to work for a Pontiac dealer. I say 40's because that was his prime time and also the glass is slightly tinted. It may not be the sought after Trico, but it works for me and does not ruin the outside finish. Hey, if there was no mirror offered for a car without sidemounts, then I figure folks back then just used what-ever. They also had better things to spend money during the depression. So the judges should consider a rear view mirror a safety item. A 31 with any period mirror mounted in good taste should not deduct from points.

I had a pair of door edge mount mirrors with the set screws on the inside that came with a thin metal plate that fit between the door and mirror base so that there was no chips in the door finish ,they worked wery good. they were on a fifty fleetline that i had years ago ,wish that i had kept them i am going to make a set for my thirty one if there is room for them.between the door and the body.
