Regarding a 1948 Chev with the original woodgrained dash. The original wood grain all looks good, but on the very top of the dash it has a "dull" appearance. Thought it was dirt or grime, so I gently wiped it with a damp cloth. The grain looks absolutely beautiful....until it dried and looked ugly again. Question: Is there anything that can be applied over the original wood grain that will allow the grain to look new again, but won't later peel or age.

The material is sun damaged.Don't use anything but water on it or it will all come off.I have seen clear enamel (spray can) applied and if its done correctly will preserve it for many more years.Apply very light coats.

A paste wax with no cleaners in it may also help but would need to be repeated more often.Old fashion Simonize in the yellow can would be my choice.Only one problem with waxing - you will never be able to clear coat it because if wax remover is used it will also remove the wood graining.
