What is the proper "gap" between the leading edge of the front door and the back edge of the front fender (with the door shut)? It looks a bit too close, and has been rubbing together over the years. Where can I find instructions on how to adjust this? Thanks.

There are no measurements given on the size of the gap.Would say from 1/16" to 1/8" -The hood may be moved forward by loosening the hinge to cowl bolts.I believe that two are accesable from inside the car.One from outside.

There is a fairly detailed procedure on hood adjustment in the shop manual, you will need to remove your kick panels though,chef-

The hood adjustment is okay. What I was referring to is the adjustment on the door itself, in order to make the "gap" between the front edge of the door and the back edge of the fender look more uniform and smooth. Is this adjustable using the large hinge screws on the front door pillars?

Hi,

To adjust door gap you use the door end of the hinge. The hinge end attached to the hinge post is for up and down adjustment and to adjust the door for level.

If I had known that growing old would be this much fun---I'd have done it sooner!

If the fender Eextension on the front door is rubbing on the rear edge of the front fender (1942-48 years) the extension is adjustable. The attaching parts are slotted and the extension can be move up and down and to the front or rear.To access the bolts remove the step plate below it and reach up inside to loosed bolts...I wouldn't move the door if it fits the body OK.In my first post I thought that you were refering to the gap between the hood and door
