Hi fleetmas47,

If I have followed your assembly correctly you have the deluxe heater installed and not the under-seat.

The defroster unit mounts on top of the heater. A cover is removed and the defroster unit attaches in the pre-drilled hole.

Just for your information, if you had installed the underseat unit you would have to install a special defroster unit that has the heating core. This unit would be connected in series with the underseat heater.

If I had known that growing old would be this much fun---I'd have done it sooner!

Hello Ray,

Boy I guess I really messed up this post pretty bad! You are correct,I did mount the super deluxe unit this weekend. It has the defroster unit built in. On front of the heater. Just need to switch the defroster lever on to direct the heat to the window vents. I was referring to the "Rubber Blade Fan". Sorry for the poor description.

The fans were a common accessory in the early and mid '30's as they were used for both defrosting the windshield and summer cooling. They became less common in the later '30's due to the defroster being connected to the heater and directing warm air directly to the windshields.

These are the instructions for mounting the fan in 1939 - I am sure that by 1948 they would be the same.

Installation-Attach by means of brackets supplied, to either upper center part of the instrument panel or the steering column.-(as a note -on a 1939 with the optional column gear shift or 1940-48 cars the column may not work due to the shift controll rod being above the column)-.The cowl (dash) installation is the most practial as this way the defroster can be directed against either half of the windshield. To do this simply drill three small holes in the top of the dash according to the template furnished.Self-tapping screws are supplied.

So there it is -you drill three small holes in the dash
