An 1185 sealed beam. You can get them from the Filling Station or Chevy's of the 40's or, if you have a NAPA store near-by, you can probably get one from them. Perhaps other auto parts stores can also get them for you. Beamer

I would THINK whatever you find should not have the 3 aiming buttons.

My 1929-1948 Master Parts Catalog shows under Group #2.727:
Part #925000 for 1940-48 All models- "Sealed Beam unit,Headlamp"

My 1929-1957 Parts and Acc Catalog shows under Group #2.727:
Part #456795 for 1940-55 All, Corv. 6volt (clearview)-Sealed Beam Unit (glass reflector)
Part #5947206 for 1940-55 All,Corv.6volt (T-3 Safety Aim)-Sealed Beam unit (glass reflector)
Also list for 55 All, Corv 12 Volt(clearview) Sealed Beam Unit (Glass Reflector)
It would appear the T-3 Safety Aim unit came out after 1948 if I am reading this correctly. Hopefully someone else can verify.

T-3 is later than 1948. Pretty sure. I will post a few pictures of a "original" soon as I get a chance.

I'm back.

Note that the back is metal like Gene said in a earlier post when you ask about this.

Russell - Yes, that is the correct headlight for a '48. Metal backed Guide. No T-3s in '48.

Are you saying the sealed beams from COT40's did not have the 3 aiming buttons and only missing the Guide script ??

No Dick the buttons are there,so 2 strikes...I had replaced the previous bulbs because they were GE,both different and both with GE script and the buttons,I figured no script and aiming buttons better then a GE bulb...The COT 40's sealed beams took no deduction when jugded but I won't take the chance again

Yes - it just depends how well versed any particular judge/team captain is with what is original.

The correct sealed beam for 1940-1954 has no aiming lugs, says Guide on the bottom of the lens, has a metal back and you can see the permentaly attached bulb inside.
The early 1955 12 V had about the same looking sealed beam.
The 1956 replacement was all galss and had the aiming lugs (6 V).
In 1955 there was an all glass no lug 6 V Guide replacement sealed beam.
Pre war they came in a Tungsol box but were Guide.
There were other metal backs made that were nto Guide.
One car show does not prove anything....most either forget to look or don't know.
I had a sealed beam article in the G&D a few years back

If the cover screw is the screw on the bottom of the rim - it is a phillips.
The three screws holding the sealed beam to the ring - they are straight slotted screws.

And I am to understand the headlight bucket is attached with clutch head and it apears the aiming screws are fillister...4 different screws for the headlight assembly, why would that be?..I know the phillips heads were used when the pneumatic tools were used?why all the other screw heads for one application?
