My 1940 Town Sedan has some interesting front coil spring work . Each spring is identical. Each spring has 3 spacers, factory made somewhere, on the outside. Each spring also has a piece of oak, about 1/2" x2" x 5" driven in between the coils on the inside. Were any spacers on front coil springs factory or were any and all later additions ?? Was this common to stiffen ride and should I leave or remove? I do plan on driving more than showing. Thanks to all from a wet ( FINALLY) Illinois.. Chevy40

spacers means your springs are weak .none of my parts books list them .they were after market. best frend is a retired parts manager.they replaced the spring he said . if you want a stiffer.ride replace them with 49 and up p.g. coils .i have nos and used sets ill measure them for you . i have a 40 coupe with a 302 gmc in it and it raised it up quite a bit . i run this car at the drag strips. kozy
