A couple of early low-riders. These years cars look better/sleeker when they are weighted down. I have been racking my brain trying to figure out how to lower my '31 Coach a couple of inches to remedy the "high rear-end" look while retaining everything else original spec. May try 2" spacer blocks under rear spring saddles with long U bolts.

Bill that looks more like a Pall Mall, or maybe a Winston it's too long for a Camel of those days.....
What make is that car across the street in the driveway, maybe a Plymouth or a Dodge of 53 - 54 vintage?

My guess for the distant car in James Dean photo is 1951 Ford, looks to be a 2 door hardtop with fender skirts. Don't know I ever saw a Dodge/Plymouth with skirts, they were very conservative back then. The inverted bathtub look was a Ford Co standard for 3-4 years.

New 1955 Advance design trucks... seems odd that they would be spending money on advertising "new advanced design" when the redesign was mere months away!

Thnx Brewster. I presumed there was a "V." But it was 50 yrs ago I had my '55 2 dr post and just couldn't quite see that "V" in my mind's eye. I appreciate your confirmation.

Bill.

Interesing the car was a Del Ray.....and with a "6." A PowerPack 265 w. Stick would have been much cooler. And, presumably, more "like" what James Dean would have had. Oh well....

A for the tongue/photo bomb, I guess it's not new that some folks get stupid when the camera comes out. Too bad....

Interesting Point....However, even back in those days the Marketing
Dept saw the need to advertise in order to Sell.....Probably called
"Top of Mind," even in those days.....

Every so often when I'm Googling for photos to post in this thread I hit a home run! The satisfaction for me sometimes is like finding that rare or missing part you've been looking forever for. Sometimes I set out to find a rare car by googling the year and body style, and hope an old photo shows up, and other times I'll spend hours flipping through photo collections hoping to catch that old Chevy I'm looking for amongst all of the Packards, Model T's, and other lesser brand. One of the cars I'm constantly looking for is an old photo of a 1913-1914 Type C Classic Six. That's right, the first Chevrolets. According to the experts on this site that I've heard from there are two remaining in the world. The restored one in The Sloan Museum, and the older "survivor" one in The Reynolds Museum in Alberta Canada. I have been trying for a few years now to find even just a picture of another Classic Six, Type C. The only photos I've seen are the popular ones of Louis Chevrolet driving the prototype on the streets of Detroit, and the photos outside the factory of the first production car with various GM executives around it. Other than those, I've seen one car on a Flicker account that I have my doubts as to it being a Classic Six, as it looks more like a Light Six.

Last night I finally had a break through... and it happened off of a link right from our site. An article written by Arend Stolte ("Arend" on Chat) for The Running Board, of The Edmonton Antique Car Club, contained photos of the Reynolds Chevrolet taken in the 1950's. My thanks to Arend for sending me the photos to add to this thread.

If anyone else has early photos of a 1913-1914 Classic Six, please post them to the thread, or PM me if you need help doing it.

Here is the car today, and the pictures for our thread...

Here is another link to Arend's article...

From theoldmotorcm comes this picture of a lady wrenching on a 1915 early Four cylinder car. It is believed that the picture was a promotional tool for the suffragette movement to get women the right to vote in the USA. Note the posters in the windshield of the car...

Here's the quote that comes with this photo...

"Grandview resident Charles Butterworth of Lincoln Road stands with his foot on the running board of his 1913 Chevrolet Little Four roadster. The two passenger car was built in Flint, Michigan by the Little Motor Company and sold ("fully equipped") for $690. Its 20 horsepower four cylinder engine with a specially designed carburetor provided sufficient power for this speedster. Its leather seats and mohair convertible top with removable curtains made it a desirable second car for the wealthy. The advertisement for the car stated "with its full nickled mountings, there is no brass to polish!"

Now, is it a Chevrolet, or a Little? The license plate covers the rad ornament, and the gas tank can not be read either. The plates read 1913, but is the car older?

Another night, another rare find! Courtesy of R58c on Flickr...The Swiss army had GM Continental convert 1939 Chevrolets into four door convertibles for staff use in '39. Here we see one of them pressed into service somewhere in Europe by the Wehrmacht. Sorry about the pink high lighting, they were done by the Flickr account holder to identify the unit markings. Also found is a 1938 Cabriolet.

An advertisement for the 1950 Powerglide transmission. I borrowed the pic from The Filling Station's Facebook page.

I think they faked it... I mean honestly, who buys a beautiful '50 convertible and gets a powerglide and no radio?? wazzup

Come to think of it... there's no power top switch, and the door panel does not look like a convertible's...

The picture I see is a sedan. However my 51 hardtop(std shift)is radio delete. I believe the car came from northern Maine so perhaps no close radio station and no need for a radio.

So you think they ripped a roof off of a sedan to take the picture? The vent windows look convertible though...
