In another thread in this Forum, it was mentioned by Chevgene that there was also a hydraulic jack made for a '48. Someone asked for more info on that jack but there was none. If this was a hydraulic bumber jack, I may have had one of them fall into my lap today!! Chevgene, can you enlighten us on the hydraulic jack and perhaps post a photo or two if you have them? Thanks. Beamer

This is the best I can do. I fooled around with Photobucket for over an hour and nothing worked. I finally had to reregister using my wife's email. Apparently they have changed things a lot. The jack is a little over 31" tall and the base is 4 1/2" x 6". I left off one photo showing the bottom of the base which is apparently permanently fastened to the jack. It appears to originally have been painted red. It works fine but I don't have the handle. I will make one if I can find out if the original was a steel pipe or solid bar of steel. Beamer

I got mine for nothing! I was visiting a friend who gives me old tools and unrecognizable old car accessories and, since he has junked cars for over 50 years, I asked him if he might have some old bumber jacks. I told him I had photos of what I was looking for but he said the only jacks he had around were for possibly '60 models and up. Then he said he did have an old hydraulic jack he has had for over 30 years and he thought it was a bumper jack. Not knowing there were so many different old hydraulic bumper jacks, I thought it might be a GM one and I was really excited. I did not know what a '48 GM hydraulic jack looked like at that time (last Thursday) but his seemed like it could possibly be one. He gave it to me and I posted my photos the next day and was told it is not a '48. I was a little let down but I will clean it up and display it anyway as I guess not everyone has one! Beamer

chef-chevy, Can you identify my jack? I haven't gone over it with a magnifying glass but I could not find any ID on it during a cursory exam. I was looking on the web at antique hydraulic bumper jacks and found one almost like it, including being red, but it didn't have any ID on it either. The jacking mechanism and the fluid storage tank were identical to mine but the part that fits on the bumber was a little different, and it did not have the sliding sleeve on the column just above that part as mine does.
I don't have a handle and would like to make one. Was the original most likely a piece of steel pipe or a solid bar (or something else)? About how long was it? I imagine it was a pipe as that could be cut on the end to fit the valve on the jack. If you could pass me your best estimate on these things, I would appreciate it. Beamer

I've owned three of these accessory hydraulic jacks and the base is removable. the handle is a hard plastic. don't have dimensions at this time for you but can get some later this week.
