Is the 1939 return tank different than the one for 42, also on the windshield washers for 42 and 39 are the nozzles ( squirters ) seperate from the towers or mount on the side of them.

Manuel,The 1939 overflow tank is 12" high and the 1940 and up is 10".Otherwise they look the same.....The 1938-39 original washers had the jets in the wiper tower. They came from the factory with a screw plug. From 1940 thru early 1946 I believe that they used the cowl top muunted jets. The late '46-'47 had them in the tower again.I'm 90% sure of this. The '38-'39 washer jar was more square, the mounting bracket mounted on the neck of the jar and a metal bail held the jar in place. It passed aroung the bottom of the jar.The 1940 and up jar had "rounder" corners and sat into the bracket. The later style washer unit was available as a kit to install on a '39 but would not be considered correct.........

Geez, I guess I had better read my various 1940 manuals again, because I have never seen any reference to windshield 'washers' offered back then. Thanks again chevnut.
