I'm trying to find all the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) locations on a 1929 - 1931 Chevy 1 1/2 Ton Truck. I have the title with a VIN number on it but have yet to locate the matching number on the truck. I found the engine number and there is a plate on the passenger side seat base with a number on it, but they don't match the number on the title. I see on the firewall (passenger side, engine side) where there are some small holes that could have held a plate (found that hint in another thread). Any other places I can look? I'm in Ohio and they like things all nice and tidy when a title comes from another state. So far this one isn't. The engine serial number, seat plate number and general apperance point to this being a 1929 but the title has it as a 1931.

What does the number read? Maybe they used something else to register it by...Joe

Sounds like the ole switcharoo.Have a cowl plate made to match title or find a tiile for the year..Chipper occasionally has titles I think

The number on the title is 3LT10948. The number on the seat base is 3LQ 7871. The engine number is 1411676.

So Chevy didn't stamp the number on the frame someplace or anything like that?

No.

An "LT" is a 1931 truck and an "LQ" is a 1929 truck. Your engine number of 1411676 is for a 1930 engine. By the way, according to the serial number your truck was made in St. Louis.

I have a chevy truck # 21LT 1912. Is mine also a 31?? It currently has only two wheels on rear not duals. Is this factory? Can anyone help with were it was built? Tim

"21" indicates that your truck was built in the Janesville, Wisconsin factory.

For the time being get a reproduction body tag and stamp it with the number that is on the title and put it on the cowl where the holes are,my 37s tag was screwed on so you wont need the special rivets like the late models have. It looks like someone accidently gave you the wrong title or you can get someone in a bill of sale state to register it for you with the correct numbers.

The '31 Chevy "LT" trucks were produced in 4 versions. 131" wheel base with single rear wheels. 131" wb with dual rear wheels. 157" wb with single rear wheels and 157" wb with dual rear wheels. The last part of the year the "M" series trucks were produced as MA, MB, MC, MD they are the same order as the four listings above: MA 131" single, MB 131" dual, MC 157" single, MD 157" dual.
