Hi there, I have just fitted up my headlights with new parts from the filling station and all is now well. I now find that the lights point up slightly and that there is no adjustment via the bracket and attachment bolt to lower the bucket. Is there a part missing? perhaps a concentric type of adjustment washer that fits between the bucket and the bracket? The alternative is to grind out the bucket seating and spoil the beautiful chrome finish, so as to lower the light for adjustment! Peter

Do you have the large donut 1/2"---5/8" thick adjuster that fits onto the headlight bar and when the bolt is loosened allows the headlight to pivot & slide and be adjusted. I do not know what the correct name of the part is. Mine are on my car and only set i have. I could not find it listed in THE FILLING STATION CATALOGUE. OUTLAW PERFORMANCE in pennsylvannia ? or ohio has them in their online catalogue around $60 a pair ? I was searching for this part myself 2 months ago. I have a gm de luxe driving lamp for sale on ebay usa and in that set of pictures is a picture of my headlights and sheet metal and you can see the part. Or email me direct at mike350 at rogers dot com and i will send you that picture and take another closeup for you. I will post the outlaw part number after i google search it up. CHEVROLET HEADLIGHT ADAPTERS #SR-OP_234 ,,,, $40.15 each HOPE THIS LINK WORKS a lot of typing http://outlawrods.com/index.cfm/page/pty...prod/prd137.htmmike

The picture of my front end really doesn't improve on the picture link i supplied for the outlaw performance parts. You can see that the donut mounting slider ring is countersunk on both sides. Its important to have those right. Without them you will not be able to adjust your headlights proplerly. If you could borrow one you could have a pair made in steel or aluminum. Or buy those at $40 each .

mike hi mike, I cant see how those adapters are going to work, even at $40 a pair? when the nut is done up, it pulls down on the bucket bolt in a straight line and nothing is allowed to move in any direction! I tried making a tapered rubber washer today and even that just ends up being pulled down in a straight line from the bolt location in the bucket bottom hole. The bucket bottom has an indent where the bold emerges and that locates over the curve of the headlamp bracket, hence no adjustment is possible? Peter

They are not adaptors, they are the stock items, they just do not know what to call them. They ARE what fits between the headlight mounting arm and the headlight bucket bottom part. THEY ALLOW THE LIGHT TO PIVOT UP AND DOWN AND THEY ALSO AlLOW IT TO SWING SIDE TO SIDE. THEY ARE THE RIGHT PART !!!!!!!!!! How close are you to Cleveland queensland australia.......my friend mark taylor who has a 35 standard touring lives there. He is on holiday for the next week. mike lynch XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX hi mike, I cant see how those adapters are going to work, even at $40 a pair? when the nut is done up, it pulls down on the bucket bolt in a straight line and nothing is allowed to move in any direction! How does the Chevrolet manual tell the mechanic to adjust the headlamps? that would be the source to reference.

The so called adaptors are $40.15 each plus postage to australia. If that price freaks you out, I would suggest posting a wanted advert in the section on this site for a pair. In whatever you have down under as an online vintage group or swap meets i would search first there in the hope of coming up with a pair.
I think there is something called the *** australian street rod association *** i stumbled into once online and maybe somebody there might have a pair. ???
good luck

A quick check of the pictures in the parts book confirm what I suggested above. There is a mounting bolt in the bottom of the headlight bucket. This bolt must be free to move front to rear. The headlights sit on top of the elusive parts you are hunting and with the free bolt you can easily adjust your headlights and then tighten the nut. Further research shows part number 370752 Pad, headlight support, as the part you are looking for and also shim 374475. Well here we go again........ The problem is now completely solved. I took your lead from the following, QUOTE: There is a mounting bolt in the bottom of the headlight bucket. This bolt must be free to move front to rear. I looked at my spare original buckets and the bolt was free to move for and aft. I then removed the offending light buckets and behold the bolt would only move half way. I dismantled the light and prised the locking tab inside, up and back, removed the bolt, ground a flat on one side opposite the square shank, rounded off the back and reinserted it into the bucket. Presto the bolt now moved the full adjustment, for and aft. I did a refit and tested it and I had full adjustment for the up and down movement. I taped every thing up inside so it did not short out and rattle, put some galv paint on the bare metal bolt head and reassembled every thing and refitted to the car....... Perfect fit. did the same to the other side and the problem is now solved. Thank you all for your input and clues, great stuff for the forum.. Cheers Peter

They are adapters, as the original Chevy headlight bars had a hump on them to fit into the concave base of a stock lamp.
You are not using stock lamps, so they adapt two convex surfaces to gain a tight fit and adjustment.
I made these for Outlaw for years. Sure didn't get $40.00 each for them though....
The original headlights have a moveable bolt that lets you get full adjustment of the lamps.

Hi there Coley thanks for the info. indeed my buckets are standard and the hump fits perfectly the bucket.I had to grind my bolt heads to regain full adjustment and now the lights have full adjustment. BTW the so called "adaptors" are $40- for a pair. I emailed them and that is what the reply was. You probably made those in the days of child labour, before Clinton discovered person secretary's?
