Hello....i recently acquired a 28 National AB from my Uncle. I was wondering if it is possible to put a 29 6 cylinder engine in place or the original 4 cylinder? Is this a conversion that will simply fit into place with removal of the radiator shroud or is there any other issues like mating with the drive line or engine mounts? Any input or suggestions would be appreciated...Thank you.

I don't know of anyone that has done it. Having both '28 and '30-'32 Chevys I am sure it would be a real chore. The front cross member would have to be modified or moved forward to provide enough space for the longer engine and oil pan. If moved then mounting the radiator would be a challenge. It might be possible to use a '28 transmission. If not then extensive modification would be needed to support the back of the engine and transmission.

I am surprised this question hasn't come up before. I have always wondered if this was possible - given the efforts to stretch the chassis for 28 one would assume it is very similar to a 29. I have never seen the two years side by side. It may be a simple matter of changing the front cross member.
