HI
THE CAR WIRING DIAGRAM FOR MY 37 SHOWS A WIRE LEADING FROM THE AMMETER TO THE CIRCUIT BREAKER ON THE GENERATOR. THE GENERATOR AND CIRCUIT BREAKER HAVE APPARENTLY BEEN REPLACED WITH A DIFFERENT GEN AND VOLTAGE REGULATOR. DOES THE WIRE FROM THE AMMETER NOW GO TO THE VOLTAGE REG? THE DIAGRAM ALSO SHOWS A WIRE FROM THE FIELD RESISTANCE TERMINAL ON THE LIGHTING SWITCH TO THE GENERATOR, DOES THIS WIRE NOW ALSO GO TO THE VOLTAGE REG? MY PREDECESSOR ALSO REPLACED THE FUSE ON THE BACK OF THE AMMETER W/ A HUNK OF BOLT, NOT A GOOD IDEA I WOULD THINK. DO YOU KNOW WHAT AMP FUSE I SHOULD USE. GUESS THATS IT FOR NOW!! ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!
THANKS

I agree the "hunk of bolt" is not a good idea. If I remember correctly the recomended fuse is 20 amp but more knowledgable members are welcome to correct me.

As for you other wiring questions, if the genearator has been changed it will most likely change some of the connections related so you might be better to post the generator and control box numbers as well.

The fuse is a 30 amp.
Wire the generator with out using the resistance wiring. Exactly how you do it depends if there is a 1938 3 brush generator and voltage control installed or a 1940 and up 2 brush with an actual voltage regulator.

Hey Tony
How are things down under? I have a 1969 Chevy C10 pu that I did a custom interior on and replaced all of the metal panels in the cab like gauge cluster, glove box, and door panels with wood panels from a place right next door to you! The wood is Tasmainian Eucaliptus burl. I'm really proud of the interior and the burl wood is the highlite.
Thanks for the info

Hi Gene
Thanks loads for getting back to me!!
The gen is a 2 brush, but can't find any #'s on it. The voltage regulator which is mounted on the engine compartment side panel right across from the gen has no #s on the cover, but it is definitely a regulator. I'm going to eliminate the wire from the field resistance terminal on the lighting switch, and hopefully everything will be fine. Also thanks for the info on the 30a fuse.
Thanks again
Ray

It is rather cool for summer down here but I wont complain (hate the hot weather), otherwise all good.

There are several types of eucalyptus most of which I am not familiar with but they are all "hard wood" and some are very hard.

Tasmania isnt quite next door, there is Victoria and Bass Strait between. From my home it is a 10 hour drive and 8 hour boat ride to get to the north of Tasmania (1.5 hour flight) but is worth the effort.
