Gidday fellas,

just a quick simple question tonight for you folks... The timber floor boards in my 1928 Chev, nothing fancy I gather? no interlocking joins or anything like that? just your basic everyday square cut edges and screwed to the main rails??..

Any info would be great as I plan on getting this done tomorrow.... Thanks

The floorboards in my 28 are original. They are basically 6 inch wide tassie oak boards with tongue and groove. Not square cut in the edges. They are supposed to be screwed down to the rails though I didn't bother with that. I have battened them together so I can lift the front floor out as one piece. There is also the panel that lifts out to access the battery.
A lot of people just use a sheet of ply which is cheap and effective. It's your choice.

Gidday Terry,

Thanks for the info, I still have the 2 x original boards that go behind the foot controls on the firewall section, and today I brought 200mm wide x 19mm thick KD local ash timbers so I think they will do the job well, but the tongue and groove sounds interesting, so now you have me thinking about that...
I will post up some photos tomorrow if I get a good run at it in the shed, Thanks

Hi Grant,
The boards in my 28 were karri or similar except for the board which the starter switch was attached to it was 5 ply, I've wondered if ply was used in 1928 or whether it was a repair done some time during it's life. The other interesting thing is the tongue and groove is about half the size of today's standard flooring the tongue is about 3mm max.
When I replaced mine I used KD oregon , just butted together and battened . The only thing I would do different is pay more attention to the size of the battery opening to allow access to the terminals, tne battery I have is a heavy duty 6volt which only just fits in the battery holder. Cheers peter..

Must have been that rush of blood, get into it now, cant wait attitude again.

Goods days work, but you need to smell the roses, especially at Berwick, the biggest Swap in the Melbourne metro area, and second only to Bendigo in size. And apart from that, I was on traffic duty and had arranged for you to be parked down in the very lower paddock, probably closer to Trafalgar than Berwick. Dont thank me, that's what friends are for.

Cheers

Ray
