My 51 hardtop had a 51 235 whitch had replaced the original 216 ( 3 speed) some time before I was in the picture. Found a good 62 235 truck engine that had been rebuilt with low miles. The truck engine had a 11" clutch as the car had a 9 1/2 . The ring gears are different! I wanted to use the larger clutch and plate but stay with 6 volt starter (won't mesh). I think I would have to go with the 12 volt starter for things to mesh correctly. That would mean converting elect to 12volt. Not sure I am ready for 12 volt now as I have rebuilt both 6 volt starter and generator. What's my options ? Thanks.

We are up and running ! Changed back to the original 9 1/2" clutch disc, pressure plate & flywheel that was in the 51 when I found her in a barn. Now we can use the original starter. Starts good on 6 volts so we are staying 6 for now. Thanks.

Good deal. Most of us have found it much easier, less costly and works better to keep them the way they were built and operated for the past 50+ years.
