Disaster struck. The shipper managed to take a single piece rear window frame and deliver it to the platter in 5 pieces. So I need an original window frame for a 1928 Convertible Sport Cabriolet. The manufacturer "Johnson" will be located on the bottom center. I suspect that the Touring or Roadster frame would be the same. NOTE! I have a 5-piece frame for trade.

Ray, Are you sure that frame is correct for the '28? My information is that the Johnson rear window frame was a '31 only part. One or both of use may learn something from this.

As soon as the shipper returns my one piece frame in 5 pieces I will verify what is on the bottom center. The frame came from my 1928 CSC. The top was original. This is not to say the window and frame had not been changed in it's lifetime, but not likely.

Get your welding buddy to put it back together when he gets back this spring. Or have an engraver put the Johnson logo into another frame that is the same size and shape. I have a few that are metal on both sides that I am thinking about modifying to accept screws for the wooden inside frame.
I think I may be learning something.

A quote to get the frame soldered and shaped $400 + -. To have it plated $275.00. To have a frame made from scratch: $900.00 and then plating. Are we having fun yet?

Having seen a piece of your original top material, and believing it to be an original,it's a reasonable bet that your rear window frame was probably original to the vehicle.
I'm certain that my CSC top and rear window/frame are not original to the vehicle and I believe that you would agree since you've seen the vehicle. I've not seen what I would consider to be an original CSC rear window/frame. Did you by chance take any pictures of your window frame before it became destroyed? If so, I'd sure like to see them.
In your first entry in this thread you mentioned that the '28 Roadster and Touring rear window frames were a possible source for your problem. I don't thing so because I have an original rear window frame/glass from an original '28 Touring. It is a two piece hard rubber unit (in poor condition) that originally had the front and rear halves sewn together with the top material trapped by the stitching and with the glass in place. The item once belonged to Bob Donohoe and he and I had discussions about it back in the 80's. Bob said it was removed from an original '28 touring that he had restored earlier. When Bob's health was failing and his family sold off his car collection items, I purchased the window/frame for peanuts because no one else knew what it was for. I think Bob's '28 Touring ended up in your area (Northwest) after his death.

Ray, You now have my interest.
The part number that I found in my Feb. '28 part book page 204 is 360876 listed as fitting AA, AB Cabriolet Back window Glass Frame. In the Aug. 1931 part book part number 366530 listed Frame, Back Curtain Glass - Wood and part number 366491 listed as Retainer, Back Curtain Glass Outside. Both are for Ind. or Independence or 1931 open cars. Can't find a listing for the Cabriolet back window in that book.
Now my question is What are the dimensions for the '28 rear window frame? Is it die-cast metal outside with wood inside like the '31 or ????
The '31 rear window frame made by Johnson is approx. 6 7/8" x 24 3/4". Part of the reason for the "approx." is that I have found differences in the exact size of three different window frames.

Chipper I can't answer all your questions as the 5-piece remains of my frame are still being help hostage by the platter and waiting for the shipper to come through with my claim. When I get the pieces back I will provide that information. The frame was potmetal and used a wood frame. Your size sounds about right but like I said, I won't know til I get it back to measure.
Since the CSC came out midseason it is difficult to find any definitive information about the specific vehicle, such as part numbers or pictures, ect.

Ray, I was surprised that I could not find a listing for the Cabriolet back window in my '29 or '30 dated 4 cylinder parts books. It is not surprising that I don't find anything on the "AB Convertible" in the Feb '28 parts book as the model did not appear until later in the model year. There are body parts for the AB Convertible listed in the August '29 4-cylinder parts book.
I do find the rubber molded rear window listed in some of my parts books (sorry did not make a note of which ones).
