If somebody wants to update this chart for 1927,
I'd be happy to post it in Members Resource Center.

there seems to be some interest in my question. 66 views. why can i not get an answer? there seems to be lots of interest in the 28 but hardly any for the 27. i do realize that we only have rear wheel brakes and are down on horsepower but we are liked just the same. what gives?

What gives here is that there are a lot of opinions on the engine paint subject within this chat site. At the risk of being made to walk the plank, I'll attempt to answer your questions.

The '27 engine block, cylinder head, cylinder head water outlet housing, Air cleaner inlet can (affixed to the exhaust pipe), and oil pan were painted a gray/green color much like the old Bell telephone bell logo. The Filling station 4 cylinder paint is as close as you'll get. I believe the water pump was engine color but not sure about it.

The '27 engine push rods were unpainted.

The Starter motor. generator, generator mounting bracket and adjusting bracket were black. The engine oil fill tube and fill cap were black. The fan blade(S) were black. Throttle and distributor linkages were black. The valve cover and spark plug wire standoff bracket were black. The oil filter and coil bracket attached to it were black. The inlet manifold was black. The air cleaner support bracket between the valve cover rear bolt and the air cleaner was black. Carburetor body questionable, either black or unpainted. Carburetor choke wire to inlet manifold support bracket was black. Exhaust manifold unpainted but because they rust so quickly most of us paint then a cast iron color with a high temp paint (your option).

Not sure about 1927, but I had a low mileage 28 coach never restored (bar guards repainted) and still had all original engine paint. The car was imported by me from St.Paul Minneapolis about 20 years ago. The engine colour was grey/green sorta like an dull olive. The rocker/valve cover and side plates were green as was the air cleaner, the bolt on bits as stated in the earlier post were black.

If you think about it (in 28 at least) an engine going down the production line ready to be painted would have everything painted the same colour as too cost prohibative to have different colours.

I've still got that rocker cover as reference/proof to them being green and have had the colour reproduced.

BTW I found under the back seat were the Willard battery warranty brochure, a tag telling the salesman how to start the car, another tag stating what tyre pressures to use. Plus on the rear floor were a set of 21" snow chains and a few of the original tools.

Part of the problem is the '27 Technical Adviser does not frequent ChatII. He shows up occasionally. He has a bunch more experience that the rest of us.

So if I'm hearing this correctly, the '27 engines were basically painted the same colors as the '28 engines. Right?

...and.... I'm wondering whether I should turn OFF the VIEWs feature. It really is misleading. It includes ALL HITS to the posting, including spiders, crawlers and other non-value added visitors (eg. non-humans). I can see where people get mislead thinking that they're being overlooked.....

Thoughts?

Bill,
I would suggest keeping it for now and adding a comment somewhere indicating that all views are not human but Google and other computer programs. That is how Google finds the sites that are listed when a Google search is performed.

As a comment: it is becoming increasingly common for a Google search for info on an old Chevrolet to have one of the top ten "hits" to be a ChatII post.
