Hi everyone
Does anyone own a Boulevard maroon car?
I have read some people say it is the same color as Harvard Crimson. That is not true. If you read the original paint formula for the two colors they are not the same.

I think my car is Boulevard maroon from a little spot I can see in the door jamb.
Does anyone have pictures of a car that color so I can verify it?
From what I have seen looking at the color chips Boulevard maroon is a darker color than Harvard Crimson.
Thanks

If you have a closed car made by Fisher Body what is the paint combination number on the cowl tag that is on the firewall?

I have a Boulevard Maroon 30-I had area that hadn't seen daylight scaned by Dupont dealer and came up with Mercedes color-I didn't have any mixed yet so don't know outcome-as Bill Barker has done lots of research and says"see Harvard Crimson" I trust him-dealer couldn't cross dupont # so I'll try other jobbers-If you want to spend the long dollar buy small amount from color library and have scanned-I did have small amount mixed from sherman williams and looks good to me but posting pic will lose lots in translation-back of mouldings should give original color-filling station sells complete color combinations chart for car

If you read the formulas on bills website next to Harvard Crimson and Boulevard Maroon color chips you will see the formulas are not the same which means they are not the same color.
I'm a automotive painter. The chromavision the Dupont dealer did for you is what I would trust the most over the auto color library or anything else.

We only use Dupont at our shop. Can you give me the Mercedes color code they gave you that they say matches? I can tint it to match my car from there.

I know things are different now than they were in the 60s. Back then I wrote Dupont and asked for a formula for Harvard Chrimson. They sent the original formula and a conversion to modern paint. It might be worth a try.

I have a few options for making the color from Dupont resources I have already.

The reason I started the thread was to see if anyone has pictures of cars painted this color.

So far on the internet I have only seen cars that are Harvard Crimson. The color in the door jamb is a real dark maroon which makes me think it is probably Boulevard Maroon.

For anyone else trying to find a color code for this color
Dupont says a modern crossover color is 1998 Toyota oem color code 53A5 or Dupont mix stock code is F5278.

You can take the oem code and have any automotive paint store make this color in any brand of automotive paint.

The reply by Lexey was interesting as the conversion paint information that was compiled by Wayne Martin list Bordeaux Maroon #246-50144 comparable to 63-70 Mercedes Dark Bordeaux Red. Acme# 9493-Dupont 8762 . The comparisons were done quite a while ago, but perhaps this info may be of use.

Check my previous post, but I believe the Mercedes code is DB573. The match is listed as being excellent.

I'm glad this post was opened and will get mercedes code on Monday to see if it matches those listed by other members and yes if stated as Boulevard and Crimson they must be different-I also don't have color tag and it's been a long time since I got chart from Filling Station but they must have gotten color from other numbers on cowl tag-job# perhaps?-I'm sure other members know more than I but chart seemed to match other colors on car-Napa was able to cross Dupont #s but Dupont couldn't

I took a razor blade and started chipping away the paint jobs over the years.
The car is maroon with the two tone black top.
Color is a dark maroon almost brown color when shined up with rubbing compund.
In the December 2011 G&D on page 82. What color is the 5 window coupe in the bottom right corner of the page?

I compared some Harvard Crimson paint I made to the color on my car.
Definetely is not Harvard Crimson.

No. The paint combination number that was stenciled or stamped on the driver's side wood main sill indicated the paint color used on the vehicle. Most of the time the number is missing due to the wear and age of the wood.

These chips are very old but they do give a relative comparison. Just don't use them to try to match colors against any actual objects.

was it stenciled in the aluminum sill plate or actually in the wood. both pieces are there but may be tough to read.

The paint code number was stamped into the wood near the drivers front seat floor. Not on the aluminum plate until 1931.

The combination number was stenciled (or stamped) on the wood sill.

Do not get confused with the aluminum plate that Chipper is referring to. He is talking about the aluminum Fisher tag that is riveted to the cowl under the hood......not the aluminum door sill that is attached to the wood main sill under the door that you were asking about.

The car on page 82 of the Dec G&D is my coupe. The paint that was used is a
PPG paint for a 1968 Fiat, manufacturers code #189. I have the formula that I can email if you need it.

I sprayed out a sample of boulevard maroon the other day.
I just took it out there and compared it to the spot on the car.
Boulevard maroon is not the color either.
Now I'm very discouraged. I have no clue what color this car is.
Sure wish I had that metal tag with the paint code.

Starting to think maybe this car is not a 1931

I'm terribly sorry I haven't sent Dupont Mercedes code yet-I spoke with my jobber and he is in middle of switching mixing system over but I'll try again today-I found best source of original color on backside of rear side window trim but there isn't a piece large enough to scan-I will gladly send you a piece I sprayed-6x6 and you can see if it matches and have it scaned-I am trying to find can with code from Napa that they were able to cross from original code-send pm with address if you would like sample piece-we'll figuire it out!
