OK, got one out and apart. Something doesn't make sense to me. When I apply juice, the "plate" is drawn down to the coil, the thump. Remove juice and it returns, click. What I don't understand, the contact on top. The way it is now it does not do anything that I can tell. It is open as you can see. When the plate moves down when juice is applied, it just opens wider. Suggestion????

Have you tried adjusting the contact points using the two nuts in the center as decarter suggested in your other post?

I have a couple of horns that work out in the barn. If I don't see some success here by tomorrow, I'll find them and look and see how the contact points are set on them for you.

No, little reluctant, don't want to short the thing out. That would be great!

The two nuts up there by the contact are your adjustment. Loosen them up/tighten them up until you get the loudest noise from your horn. As Mike mentioned, it won't sound the same as when they're mounted on the car. Mine sounded very anemic until they were on the car. I can't recall how the contacts looked on mine as the horns got power - sorry. :-)

OBTW - Great pictures!!!!

Could not stand it any longer. Took it apart as far as I could. Put it back together and adjusted until the contact on top just touched with slight pressure and, drum roll, honk honk! What a beautiful sound. One down, one to go. pineapple

Back in January we were discussing how to adjust the horns. I did mine by trial and error and I don't remember anyone having a better solution. I recently came across a United Motors Service Bulletin that describes how to adjust the horns. There actually is a procedure! Thought you all might like to see it. I've posted it under VCCA Member's Photos. I think you can make the picture bigger by clicking on it so you can actually read it. If that doesn't work, let me know and I can email you a copy of the bulletin.

Dale, good info. I wonder how many car owners toot their horns 25,000/50,000 times in the life of the car? Maybe it was different when horses, cows, and chickens ran loose.
How was your trip to S. C.?

We had a great time, both touring there and at the Area 9 Meet in Greenwood, SC. On the way home, the car wanted to overheat. Removed thermostat on the road, but it looked good. Now that I'm home, I've pulled the water pump and radiator. Looks the radiator is really plugged up. Had it reworked last year, so not sure why it's bad now. Such is life!!
