My regulator has been amp meter has ben acting funny, whith the headlights off ,if I rev the engine it will go almost to full charge, and when I put head lights on it goes to 0. I put an nos delco voltage# 1118301 in I get nothing. I notice that the reg. I took out mounts directely to the firewall,no rubber grouments. the nos regulator, mounts whith rubber gromutes,no grounding,to firewall.Does anyone know which is correct? It is a 1952 chevy,6 volt as factory built,no changes. Thanks Ed

Lets start with the new regulator...because the old one sounds kinda normal...there is no needle movement at all with the new regulator ?

Did you polarize the generator first to the new voltage regulator?

Using a jumper wire you momentarily touch one end of the jumper wire to the BATT terminal and the other end to the GEN or A terminal. When you get a spark the generator is polarized to the new regulator.

Remember......every time you either remove the generator or replace the voltage regulator you must re-polarize the generator.

1118301 is NOT the correct regulator for a 1952. The 1952 used the short generator that has no brush cover band. the correct reg. for a 1952 is a 1118721 or 1118725.....unless a og 1940-1951 generator has been installed.

My voltage regulator is mounted with rubber grommets that came installed on the voltage regulator.

Yes, the regulator is to be grounded. Usually, one of the mounting holes has a strap attached that grounds with the mounting screw.
