I'm gearing up to place a looooong order of stuff. I need advice about the following for a 1934 Master Coupe:
-Cowl & grille shell lacing. I assume with wire at the cowl and without at the grille?
-Is there something between the running board and the bottom of the rocker panel? There are what looks like rivet holes on top of the running board flange. Which FS product would fit the bill?
-How many feet of fender welting does one buy and which bead size?

A happy New Year to all!

Really, no one knows whether there is something between the running board & the body and which size of bead is required on the welting? Remember that my car had none of this remaining other than rivet holes, so I have no remnants to guide me.

Don't have a '34 to check. Maybe someone that does can comment. Do know that '32 has wire in cowl welting and none on radiator shell. Radiator shell has single bead on welting, double on cowl. '34 may be the same?

The fender welt was 1/4". The welt that ran the length of the running board was riveted to the running board. The hood lace had the wire on the cowl only.

Thanks Gene. Always the gentleman. So I gather that we use the same welting along the top of the running board and rivet it on?

What about the gas tank apron, there are rivet holes along the top of it too. I looked at every photo of a '34 I could find and for some reason there doesn't appear to be any welting there. Or was it just a felt gasket or something? cool

My 33 Standard had welting attatched to the gas tank apron. Probably the same on your Master...Joe

What your looking for , for between the running board and the rocker panel is called anti squeek. Its a rubber strip with a bulb type edge on one side to fill the gap and stop the squeek. Lynn steele rubber inNC produces it and IANDIrepro sells it as does gasoline alley. Have mine split where running board and fender meet and run it up the fender for about a foot under the cowl section. I used 10/32 stainless button head allen heads to bolt it down as they have a nice low profile.

Re welting between gas tank cover and rear body area below trunk lid. I tried that but my gas tank cover was such an excellent tight fit it pushed the cover away from the bumper bolt area by 3/16" and tighting that bolt up would crush the area in due to the new clearance. So welting was removed. I would think it would only be used as a fill. Also a properly fitted rad shell to fender should not neeed welting either.
