Do I understand that you are NOT interested in whatever new recently manufactured seal is available.
I might have some old stock partial gasket sets around. If so, they would likely be an aftermarket brand such as McCord or Victor. Would you like me to take a look?

Mike

I am also rebuilding a 41 engine and would like a rope seal. I tried 2 of the new seals and they both leaked. Please check for me. Thanks, Mike

I was told nos rope seals work better (asbestos).
Im not interested in the new rope seals that are being sold today.
Let me know what find, thanks.

Hi Fleetboy
I am a dealer for Best Gasket. They supply the graphtite rear main rope seals. Click on this link http://www.bestgasket.com/about_our_products.asp to see the information. These are not the ones supplied by Victor Reinz or Felpro that are a non asbestos composite type. The rear main rope seals supplied by Best Gakset is a teflon rope impregnated with graphite. I have been selling these for years and have customer who say they are the best thing going and some who don't like them. I have come to find out that how it is installed makes or breaks the performance of any seal but if you would like the original asbestos rope seal, I should have them in stock. Contact me at bobaamarxpartscm or call 715-652-2405. Also see our website www.marxparts.com for prices of the Best Gasket rope seals. Thanks Bobaamarxparts

I agree with(how it is installed). I roll mine down in with a wooden dowel and have no problem.

Hammer handles are good for that purpose as well.
