Here is the tool I use to remove the wheels for checking the brakes etc.

http://s889.photobucket.com/albums/ac98/solan1916/Removing%20a%20wheel/

Remember to release the service brake before starting the removal.

No oil on the brake linings the last two seasons due to drilling two 5 mm holes under the axle, see picture # 1.

NORS brake drums, in forged steel can be supplied by Gary Wallace, St. Louis www.20schevyparts.com

Thanks Solan. This is one of the next items on my "To Do" list, and I was wondering how to pull the rear wheels. chevy

Hi Solan,

Well done on making a wheel puller, they are a very handy tool to have. Drilling a hole in the axle seems a big step to take. I had oil contaminating the brakes 4 years ago due to too much oil running down into the differential. I fitted new inner axle seals, converted the axle bearings to sealed on both side units, and check the oil level in my differential every 4 months or so.

Since then I have not had a problem. May I ask what lead you to drill holes in the axle.

Regards

Ray

Drilling such holes have been done to a lot of T-F**Ds and many other old cars here in Norway for many years, specially before the sealing gaskets turned better some years ago. But we try to park on flat levels. I also check the oil level in the gear box as well as at the back to avoid problems.
