This is the fellow (Luke Rizzuto) I met at a car meet in Los Gatos that owns the 1918 chevy with a V8 that was in the Henery F--d Museum for about 50 years. I guess he needs sponsors to help him make this wonderful great race. He is a VCCA member and needs all the support he can get. Just FYI...Oscar

Well- I wonder how Luke made out with the 12/31/07 deadline. Sure would be nice if someone with deep pockets and a burning desire to see him succeed would step forward!!

I don't know if he made the entry fee, but he is listed as a participant. Try going to the following site for complete "Great Race" details.

Of all the posts on the D4 D5 1917-18 chev V8, i decided to post on this one.

As the former head of GASKET KING CO LTD who used to sell gaskets in hemmings motor news 1975---1989. I had one pair of cylinder head gaskets for that motor, they were the fitzgerald gasket company of torrington conn, original company samples.

Of all 3 companys producing copper and asbestos cylinder head gaskets, ( VICTOR , McCORD , FITZGERALD ) only fitzgerald produced them and i believe they were their application number # 33 which would show up in their 1929-30 applicfation book or their 1932 application book.

Just thought i would include this information on this site.
When cylinder head gaskets were no longer available new old stock i would tell people they could get them custom made by MOLINA GASKETS in california.

hope this info helps someone

Thanks Mike This could be very helpful. I am currently restoring a D-4 and have the engine apart. I have NOS head gaskets but the condition seems a little questionable. Ardie

Ardie, your a lucky guy to be able to come up with those......are they McCord #33.???

If you have any doubts about the quality of the NOS gaskets get yourself a quality pair hand made in copper and asbestos by Molina gaskets in Torrance Calif if memory serves me correctly. Also make sure to replace all the head bolts or studs with brand new , because you do not know over the years who has been grabbing a correct size socket , combined with a 15" long bar and over tightening the head bolts, stretching the heck out of them. The bolts lose their correct clamping ability if they have been stretched.

Biggest cause of repeat customers for more NOS gaskets was failure to replace head bolts/studs. You can get away with inferior bolts for gaskets in other areas but not the cylinder head.

Mike,
I see you live about 150 miles away from London, Ontario. I usually ask any Canadian that lives around London or was a parts supplier to the London area if they remember the 1918 Chevy V8 that was in London during the 1930 -60 period? My D5 V8 was built in the New York City but was believed imported into Ontario in the 20's. It was brought back into Michigan in the early 70's by an early VCCA member, Clyde Hale.

When i bought the complete company samples of the fitzgerald gasket company & all their old pre 1950 gaskets totally 19, 823 pieces, back in 1979, there was a pair of the McCord #33 for the 17--18 chevy v8. Somebody bought them, no idea who.

Unfortunately i sold the gasket business ( 1989 ) complete old stock to OLSONS GASKETS in port orchard washington... note he also makes gaskets out of diesel steam material www.olsonsgaskets.com also try www.gasketcity.com

I sold all of my gasket application books starting at 1921 to gasket city and some to olsons. I would contact both of them about the SCRIPPS BOOTH V8 1917. ..1918...more so olsons for those.. Some of them i had the company samples of them only and other times i actually had original cases of 10.

sorry this is all the help i can be.
