Continuing with the assembly of the engine. I bought a complete kit from FS. Please refer to the photos below to see what I'm talking about.

-What is the first one? I don't see anything that shape.
-In the picture with the oil distributor, the thin cork one on the upper right looks like it might go in the front cover. Where does the thick one go?
-The little copper one under the bolt appears to go between the bolt and the body of the oil distributor. If so, does it go under a lockwasher?
-The large gray one at the bottom right appears to fit on the cap. The old gasket was copper.
-The little gray one beside the valve looks like it could go under the valve in the bottom of the body.
Are my guesses correct? Also, the gasket between the oil distributor and the engine appears to have an extra "ear". Do I just trim that off. The other gray one at the top looks like it might fit the oil pan plug. what do you think? Nothing was labelled for the less than expert.

Pat, my older 194s had vane type oil pumps, but that gasket looks like one I've seen used between the cover and the body on a gear-type oil pump. Hope that helps.

All the Best, Chip

"What is the first one? I don't see anything that shape."
"How about the top cover on the transmission?"

"-In the picture with the oil distributor, the thin cork one on the upper right looks like it might go in the front cover. Where does the thick one go?"
The thin one might be for the back of the ball housing. Either that one or the thicker one. Or the thin one might be for the glass bowl on the fuel pump for '29-'33 and '35-'36 Chevys.

"-The little copper one under the bolt appears to go between the bolt and the body of the oil distributor. If so, does it go under a lockwasher?"
What lock washer? None of the bolts on my oil distributors have a lock washer. May have a flat washer but not a lock washer.

"-The large gray one at the bottom right appears to fit on the cap. The old gasket was copper."
Guess copper replacement was not available so the gray fiber will have to work.

"-The little gray one beside the valve looks like it could go under the valve in the bottom of the body."
Not sure about the small gray one.

"Are my guesses correct?"
Sorta

"Also, the gasket between the oil distributor and the engine appears to have an extra "ear". Do I just trim that off."
Yes it also fits the earlier 6 cylinders.

"The other gray one at the top looks like it might fit the oil pan plug. what do you think?"
I think that is what it is intended to replace the original copper gasket.

Nothing was labelled for the less than expert.

Thank you Chipper,

Now that I look at it it does look like it might go on top of the transmission. What is it doing in an engine rebuild kit?

As for the cork ones, I can see the glass bowl but the Ball housing? (I assume you'r talking about the U-joint).I have a separate kit for that. I'll compare just for the hell of it.Is there a gasket inside the front cover around the crankshaft?
The book shows a gasket at the bottom of the distributor valve. I'll look if there's an old one in that one or my spare one. That should help determine what it is. I wonder if FS has a list or do they buy the packages already made.

I checked in the parts book. there isn't a seal around the cranksaft for the front cover for the '34. I'll contact FS to see where those two corks go. I think I have the rest figured out.

The oil slinger has a notch presumably to hook on a key, or is it just to slide over the key? If its rests against the crank gear, it is beyond the Harmonic balancer's key.

The cork for the timing cover wasn't used till 1935 and I suspect the gasket set also covers 1935.
Your description of the installation of the slinger s correct.
The thin round gasket may be for the glass bowl for the fuel pump on a 1935.

That makes sense...1935. The first clue should have been the oil distrutor gasket's shape. So it looks like the kit covers several years and you take what you need

Thats true. At one time Chevrolet sold a gasket set that covered all 216 engines from 1937-1953 and you would have a lot of extras when done.
