Here are some pictures showing the parts I used to make a solution for such a part, as I did not have an original one. http://s889.photobucket.com/albums/ac98/solan1916/Under%20pan%20under%20engine/I made the patterns in paste board and adjusted with a pair of scissors where needed. Then I taped the parts together and tried the under pan up under the engine, adjusted the paste board and got the metal plates cut. Then they were fastened together with rivets and bolted to the frame. The pan gives better engine cooling (than not having one), collects oil/water to save environment and prevents parts from being lost, specially during driving. Still I am looking for an original pan for RHD. Anyone having one for sale?

Pans are a great idea. So what's that hose going to your left front wheel that looks just like a brake hose? I don't see one to the right wheel.

That's good to know - my speedo doesn't work and I assumed the cable would go to the trans as in other cars. No cable going to my wheel. Will check it out.

Mine is titled as a 1919 and is probably a 1920, so I guess I should have a trans driven speedometer.

Solan, The pan on my 1916 Monroe has a notch cut out for the steering on the left side and has an identical notch on the right side . The pan shown in the 1916 Chevy 490 parts book, while not identical to mine, also appears to be notched on both sides. I suspect that only one pan was made and it was made to fit both right hand and left hand drive cars. Ed Emerson

Hey Erling
Very strange that you are after a belly pan for your 1916 Chev Touring when your car was in Australia it had one and I was able to use paper templates from it to reproduce a pan for my 1916 Roadster. Really the pans are a real pain as you have to remove the steering arm to fit the pan or remove the pan to change the oil. From my testing the belly pan does not help with cooling on the thermo syphon cars and it actually makes my car run hotter so I have removed it and get better cooling all around the engine. Good luck in trying to reproduce a belly pan as they are very complicated and made of a few panels. The original pans were very thin metal and to reproduce one that looks original is very hard. The last thing you want is one that looks like a home made version that detracts from the originality of the car.
