Anyone ever taken down a Torque tube driveshaft with more that 5 used up Okie Bushings inside of it? I found 5 in one of my 51 Belair HT parts cars back in 1986. The drive shaft was really in bad shape. Maybe the previous owner up in Kansas was a Okie Bushing expert. I bet that it took 10 HP just to turn the driveshaft. Wouldn't you know that the U Joint was looser than a goose and the 14 roller bearings in the clutch shaft and mainshaft were welded together but the transmission would shift and turn , it had what looked like black asphalt for grease. That old Kansas car had the bottoms of the quarters and the doors rusted away about 8 inches up. I didn't even to get to salvage the frame, the headlight buckets or the springs, they were rusted almost away. It was quite a mystery. The powerglide rearend, brake drums and brake stuff was hardly worn, maybe they had been replaced before the tree fell on the trunk. The interior was in good condition, all the windows were cracked but kept the elements at bay. Man I got a lesson of buying a car for an "easy restoation", of for parts (no title). When I saw it and threw a hissy fit the older gentleman knocked off $50 from the price, and gave me 5 51 wheels and hubcaps that looked better than the general piece of crap car. Two of the tires even held air! I didn't even cry when it went thru the crusher!
