Educate me. Other than the type rim on the rear spare, how can you tell from this view. I knew it had an Artillery rim, anything else? Is the cab any noticable difference from a glance? A 36 chevy is slightly more narrow...right?

The car on the right is a Pierce Arrow.

Thanks, I.ve never seen that year model. most PA's are older looking than that. Strange car, looks like big bucks for the late 30s.

I would think the speed limit would hardly be a problem when that photo was taken.

I don't think it's a Pierce-Arrow... it looks more like a 1937 Studebaker Dictator Coupe. That rear window should be the key...

I think you're right Brewster. Anyone know what kind of car this is? Looks like they're doing some hand cranking.

I think that weird looking car to the right is a 2012 Chrysler product of some kind. Now how it got into that old picture is anybody's guess. Super imposed? monkey wave

As to the Chevrolet being a 1936 or 37, I haven't a clue. What feature, from this angle, assures that it is a 36 rather than a 37? Just curious. pipe

I don't know about "assured" Charlie but the tail light appears to be mounted to the fender where the '37 mounts to the body. Tail light shape is similar as well.

The car to the far right parked at the curb is a 1935 Packard 120.
The coupe with the funny rear window is a Studebaker.
The Chevrolet coupe is a 1936 Master.

The chrome head light pod is a feature of the '36 Master Deluxe. 1937 had painted ones... you can see the chrome in the picture.

We have a tire company here that gives free beef with certain purchases.

Tennessee is backwards. Most grocery stores give POINTS towards gas(they have their own pumps). I almost always get gas 18 cents cheaper than the going price. Friday ,at the same place, HiTest is the same price as Regular. Great idea. Drop off the wife and fill up the cars.

Nice shiney 37 Master Deluxe that they are fueling. Can anyone tell what the car in the other lane is?

Check the gas price. 11.9 cents wave

That's the cheapest price I have ever seen in an old photo. I wonder if gas ever got below 10 cents?

You may find that it's a wartime photo. The price may be cheap, but the driver may be limited to what they can buy due to rationing. Some of the guys that went through rationing may know better...

I don't think gasoline has ever been that low unless there was a "gas war" going on. Maybe the station ran out of "two's" and used the "ones" instead knowing that everyone would know to just double the price. We had such glitches when gas went to over a dollar. There was no place to put the "one."

There have been great posts on this thread. I enjoy them and appreciate all those who keep posting them. As attest by the great number who view this thread, I am far from being alone. Great work. Keep it up! wave

The price per gallon may have been with out the sales tax. I remember back in as late as the '70's some states allowed them to post the price without tax.
In the '60's gas was as low as 18 cents a gallon here in the Milwaukee area including tax. That was during price wars.

This price is 11.9 per gal. and they STILL made enough on the sale to give a bonus of free food.

I wonder what the station paid per gal.

As Gene said; price wars. "Loss leader." Even today some stations may only make a penny or two a gallon. Maybe, we (U.S.) need our own oil wells. Agrin

BTW: I used to hope that those OPEC countries would run out of oil and be stuck with their gold plated Mercedes and nothing to sell but sand. I don't think that anymore. I've just reduced the amount I use. At about 17 MPG my Denali gets more gas milage than the 41. So the 41 just sits when I would really rather be driving it. Regular is $3.70 per gallon here in NC now. Oh, well... parking

computer Back in the sixties here in central Kentucky, Gas was 16 cents and bulk oil was 10 cents a quart. I remember getting a 90 cents worth of gas and a quart of oil and be able to cruise the drive-in Dairy Freeze all night. Ah! Those were the days!!! auto

Check out the two piece cab. ODD How would you steer it? I'd love to see the linkage.

Steering is done by an early version of what would now be called remote control.
