The above is a photo of the brake lining that came off of my 33 5 window. Can anyone identify the time period when this lining was manufactured? The photo is also showing in the VCCA Member's Photos to the left.
I have a roll of the same lining that was made in England, and it appears to be a molded type of asbestos lining for cars from the mid to late '30's to suit pressed steel brake drums, and as such,it should be rivetted, not bonded, otherwise it becomes too hard, and the co-efficient of friction decreases, making the lining next to useless on the older pressed steel drums.

CJP's 29, Thanks for the info on the brake linings. As I have worked on this car I have got the feeling that most of items on the car are original. It looks like the car was bought and used a lot thru the 30's 4O's and early 50's. When things began to wear out like the brakes it's use went way down. After all a lot of that period was very difficult for most Americans. So your information on the brakes helps me to think that this car is mostly original with lots of use. Do you have any idea if Chevy put this kind of lining on at the factory or are these linings more likely after market.
The WYRBAC brand of lining was probably just an aftermarket brand.Chevrolet would have most likely had their own type of linings made inhouse.Perhaps the real experts on the '30's Chevs would know a bit more.
