Hello all,

I carry on with another generic question for my 1949 Chevrolet.
Would you advise to do a conversion from 6V to 12V ?
What are the benefits ?
Does it need a lot of work to implement that ?
I saw a 6 to 12 V conversion kit in the National Chevy association site...has anyboy used such kits ?

Thank you in advance for your answers.

Best regards,

Thank you

Jean-Claude

The majority of us in the USA keep the 6 volt systems. It worked for 50 - 80 years and will do so for many more if properly maintained. In Germany and maybe other EEC countries 12 volts may be required to drive vehicles. In that case conversion is not optional. Your neighbor in Germany has a '40 Sedan that has recently been registered, he should see this post soon and reply.

If your starter is O.K....and your battery is good...6 volt is just fine ! I switched once to 12 volt but switched back...had problems (and who needs more of those)...think I couldn't find a replacement (12 v) heater motor that would fit or something...I just know I'd never consider doing it again...to much trouble...but that's just me...life's to short ! DRIVE DRIVE DRIVE ! I think that's my new motto..and it gets me out of the house ! A la prochaine , Au revoir!
