I have a 1931 complete rebuilt engine for sale including rebuilt starter, and. generator. engine has an updraft carb and fuel pump, btm end distributor, bell housing wiring harness. Could use some helping pricing engine.

Thanks for the interest. Engine was rebuilt 15 years ago by Clayton, an old time engine builder here in Phoenix, Engine has never fired, however turned over on a regular basis with oil regularly sprayed into the cylinders. The engine can be inspected here in Phoenix.
At rebuild, engine was bored with new pistons, rings, valves, camshaft. over 1,000 dollars just in parts.
Engine is customer pick up here in Phx.

I'm sure it was not the intent but your earlier post concerning adding the price and pointing out that this is a requirement for posting parts for sale, seemed a little harsh to me. It soured my mood. While it was correct to point this out, I think there may have been just a tad of knee-jerk here.

It seemed clear to me that the poster for the engine merely asked for help in that he didn't know what a fair price would be for the engine. Nothing more. At least, to me, it seemed innocent and didn't seem tantamount to an auction or a fishing expedition and didn't deserve the sort of open and over-the-top reprimand given.

The emphasis on some of the words (putting them in capital letters) is like shouting and could be deemed mean sorted and grouchy. Tone and inflection, while not heard by the ear, can still be interpreted and imagined by the reader, given the context, even in print. It seems to me that Moderators should use the least discipline necessary to achieve the desired result.

I remember that there used to be an official at Hershey Fall Meets that blazingly and blairingly announced over and over, ad nausea, about cars that would be towed, if not moved immediately. (Some of you may remember what I'm writing about.) The tone and inflection in these announcements went on throughout the whole meet, it seemed. They came across as mean-sorted and were dispiriting and mood changing to those in earshot (read: just about all over the whole area). That sort of reprimand should not be needed here, even if it does comes in print.

I am in no position or standing to counsel but it may be a good idea to take a lesson or two from Bob Barker about how to keep future promptings more ... well, acceptable. A gentle nudge to remind us of rule infractions is about all that is required. Certainly not dragged out by the ear to the woodshed like a six-year- old as with djphx. Grin.

I don't make the rules but I do try and follow them, I was just the messenger in this case. If you or the advertiser are so thin-skinned that your "feelings" are hurt or you are upset about someone pointing out the easily understood facts then maybe you ought to get away from your computer for a while, you may be taking this a little too seriously. I've seen more than one poster on this site (and others) argue and whine about trivialities no one else gives two dead about; lighten up, this is supposed to be fun. Want to sell something, state the price or put the ad in the appropriate section. If everyone played by the rules in this country our Nation wouldn't be in the shape it's in now.

Withdrawing engine on this site, placed add on ebay with new price. Gave everyone here a chance to buy at lower price.

I'm not trying to be a smart-ass but I have several of these engines I can't even give away; I do hope someone will buy your engine but there's a very tiny demand for these old chevy motors. They usually get replaced with a later full-pressure engine, for a good reason. Good luck.

I have a boneyard full of 1929-32 engines and in 30 plus years I have sold only one engine and it was to a local dude. The rest of them are still here. I consider an early six cylinder engine a boat anchor until it is sold. Once a buyer does come along (which is very, very rarely) he is usually two to three thousand miles away. The shipping that far will cost more than what I am usually asking for the engine, therefore, it will remain in my boneyard.

maybe if all your engines were rebuilt you could sell them.

Do you still have the rear end stuff? I'd like to see a picture of the brake set up. I've got a 1929 sedan missing some brake parts. I know the differentials are different.

Not really. Most fellows that have been in the hobby for a long time know that the term "rebuilt" means absolutely nothing since most "rebuilt" early six cylinder engines are usually questionable, and some have not been "rebuilt" at all.

Many guys prefer to have the engine rebuilt themselves...that way they know what they are getting and they are not wasting money on a supposedly "rebuilt" engine that needs to be gone through correctly again.

Rebuilding an engine strictly for resale is usually a waste of money because the return on the investment will probably not materialize and, here again, the one dude that does need the engine usually lives two or three thousand miles away and the shipping costs are expensive.

i'm new on here. for my own edification, if a have a chevy part for sale, is it against the law for me to ask yall what it's worth?

Fossil; Do you see the BIG RED words in the forum listing? Do you own research and put what you want for the item. You can try other websites if you're fishing for bids. I always figure what I'd be satisfied with then go with that. You might make money on an auction site, if that's what you're trying to do. Mainly the Chevy site is intended to provide a place for Chevrolet fans to help each other with parts, ideas and experience and not a place to try and squeeze the last highest cent out people trying to get their project in shape.
