Time a ticking on the countdown to Flint, and I've been having trouble starting my rebuilt 235 in my 60 Impala.
I checked it all over again tonight reset distributor, all wiring seems correct. but we do not have spark at the coil or plugs ? ! I should mention I have a Pertronix to replace the points which worked prior to rebuilding the motor
Any thoughts?!

If you have power to the Petronix and no power from it, I would replace it with something else. How about points and condenser?

I had a Pertronix in my 1970 Impala when I owned the car and I ended up throwing the Pertronix in the trash can and going back to the distributor points.

Funny I was thinking of doing that, although Petronix has worked flawlessly for years at least 5000 miles worth

Make sure you have power coming in to the coil "+" terminal. Also make sure your negative battery cable is tight and clean so you get a good ground. Don

I removed pertronix. put in points and a new coil tonight. carb sputtered but no start. I went back and checked positive side of coil to negative battery terminal and get 2 V which then counts down from there when negative cable is removed from battery. 0 V when negative cable is connected to battery.

Where do you have the ground cable connected coming off the battery? Are you sure that you have the correct wire connected to the + side of the coil and don't have the wires wrong? Take both wires of the coil, connect your meter to the + wire and have someone turn the engine over and see what you have for voltage.

If the points are closed you will not get 6V at the coil. That is due to the current draw through the points. 2V is really low even with the points closed. You should get ~ 6.6 volts at the coil with the points open.

Turned out, best I can guess is the coil wire, but after poking end of wire, it works with new coil and old delco coil ( I put old coil back in because new coil from Napa is slightly larger and when in braket, I can not install both bolts into engine) It runs, but I did not have on long as it has an exhaust leak. Can't get new gasket till Tuesday. It looks like I may have overtightened it? I can put feeler gauge in at sides & bottom.
It was straight and true with block from the engine re builder.

I do question the amount of oil i have on top end of motor, seems to me there should be better flow.

Not enough time to get bugs out so I don't think she'll make it to Flint :(
