Boy, I have done everything myself "refurbishing" my 47 alittle at a time for the last 14 years. From rebuilding the engine, suspension, brakes, woodgraining, wiring, yada, yada, yada....But installing all new windlace, pillar panels, and a headliner has been one of most UNPLEASANT projects I have undertaken! I have an all new profound respect for auto interior men.

Sarge,

I just finished the same job in my 38 coupe. A tedious and very nerve-wracking job. I am very pleased with the results--the headliner is very tight without wrinkles, etc. The stapling, tacking of the windlace and wireon were tricky, and it was particularly tricky cutting out the quarter windows and rear windows. Thank goodness it came out as well as it did. I can understand why a professional upholsterer would charge a fair sum to do this job.

Jim,

Yes the endless tacking, staples, were very time consuming, and oh yea VERY tedious. I had a few wrinlkes but a few hours with a vaporizor on took care of those. I am for the most part pleased with my results. I was also very nervous cutting out the rear window as the lines hampton coach had drawn on was NOWHERE close to where I actually had to cut. Thank goodness I trusted my own gut feeling on that one, or it would have been ruined. It was a very special gift from my wife so Im really glad it all turned out in the end.

Hm I thought I was the only crazy crazy one making my own headliner from only a sheet of headliner material.Thats for my 48 Fleetmaster that includes an open roof.I only have to make some final adjustments and also find and install the wire-on but so far I did not find a readymade one of the correct color and a few attempts making one myself failed so far.
stressed Oh well I guess it will be done one of these years.
